Should Russia continue to sell arms to China?

Alright so word out of China is the first aircraft carrier in the country made it maiden voyage for some excersizes today. Its a major provocation as Taiwan and many other countries that China has problems with do not have air carriers or naval ships capable of defending against the Chinese Navy.

Then I just read in the article that Russia is upset that China plans to build 3 more air craft carriers using the technology in the current carrier which Russia had sold them. Russia is complaining that China is updating all the weapons they sell them and creating weapons for themselves. However Russia is China's biggest arms dealer and most of their weapons come from Russia.

So if Russia is worried that China is stealing its military tech by enhancing and changing the origional Russian products. Why the heck is Russia still selling weapons to China. Is it in Russia's best interest to continue selling arms to China? I mean building a military super power right below your border is that the brightest idea? Lastly since Russia knows China is stealing its technology why would they continue to provide China with the means?

In the end should Russia stop supplying China with weapons such as this air craft carrier?

Edit (My bad the aircraft Carrier was sold by Ukraine, however Russia still supplies China with many weapons and technologies so the argument stands should Russia continue to sell weapons to China. Also someone pointed out maybe Russia should start arming China's enemies like Taiwan or Vietnam.

Again I am very sorry I did not do adequate research into the air craft carrier prior to posting this discussion. I based it on a news story released on TV, (Read my latest post for further description) I will continue to try and improve my future threads and hope this does not occur again.

If they don't sell to them, somebody else will.

interesting enough, the Aircraft Carrier was sold to a private company who allegedly wanted to turn them into a casino, with a contract condition not to use it for any military purposes. who is behind i's ending up in china is a bit of a mystery

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

pretty sure the article was said the russians were complaining about the chinese building fighters off russian tech, not about the carriers.

Yes, it is in Russia's best interest to sell weapons to the biggest military on the Earth. They likely make a small fortune from it.

Russia won't worry about the military strength of the Chinese too much. They aren't enemies, and Russia has too many nukes and natural resources for China to even consider entering a conflict with Russia (not to mention there's no actual reason to enter a conflict!)

Who are we to say they can't?

And what's with all the poll threads dude?

The most funny thing in the thread is that the whole premise of it actually never happened.

The chinese could have all the tanks and warplanes they want. It still wouldn't be a threat because they're terrible drivers.

I do worry about China having growing military influence and the South China Sea. They have a ridiculously large claim to it and I'd hate to see them resort to military efforts in order to enforce their claim.

Well Russia sold an air carrier to a third party in which it landed up in China's Government's hands. Yah it is still Russia selling it to China. Unless your niave enough to believe Russia really has no idea who they sell their weapons too. Its like when the American's armed the Taliban, no the US didn't directly hand the weapons to the Taliban they sold the weapons through middle men.

Of course Russia isn't always directly supplying countries with arms but to honestly believe they are not selling them knowingly to these countries is absurd. Its like if an M2-A1 Abrams tank landed up in North Africa. Would their be any doubt that America knew where the tank was headed? And thats just a single tank this is a freaking Air Carrier and Russia only has a few of em.

Russia would have known something was up when selling that carrier. If they didn't then their Government must be one of the most incompetant moronical Governments on earth. I mean seriously the Government knows where alot of their weapons are going just like America does!

How does a refurbished USSR carrier which was 70% finished, then stripped, left to rot in the Ukraine after the fall of the Sovjet Union and then bought by the Chinese from the Ukraine make it a Russian thing?
