Forums - Website Topics - "I miss the old VGChartz from 200x" threads - A BIG announcement

The main concerns should be:

-Streamlining the site, making content more accessible, and making it speedier.

-Attracting great users and great talent (reviewers, writers, etc.).

The second will naturally follow if the first. I was a mod when the new rules were put in place that made banning more protracted and arduous (instead of worthless trolls being banned immediately, they had to be banned for 1 day, then 3 days, etc.), and I even remember the day when ioi basically said "oops" and accidentally unbanned everyone on the site. There have been a lot of great users on this site but many of them have been chased away by the sheer magnitude of bad posting and stupid comments. However, I look forward to these changes if they ever come to fruition. The site can still focus a lot on news and reviews but none of the elements of the site need to come at the expense of the others. Making the site into different entities or sections just makes it even more confusing. And if Vgchartz isn't a good name, maybe it's time to change it. It wouldn't be the first time a site changed its name.

If the site has to import writers and reviewers while some of Vgchartz's best contributors are posting on NeoGAF then clearly something is wrong. Make the forums quicker and crack down on worthless posters (there are several in this thread alone). Stop trying to separate the site into different sections and just make one comprehensive, well designed site. I'm aware that there's a lot of data on the site but maybe we don't need to have dozens of hyperlinks placed at every possible open space. It's a damn shame that even the game pages are clunky and confusing now. If moderators and game DB administrators and poll admins go out of their way to make your site better, don't then go and make their job more difficult.

And you can say I'm wrong, but the results are on my side. A clunky site and a languishing community. It's time to strip away the badges and Facebook imitation and just be a great site about videogames.

I think you'll find many would agree with this. Rewards and badges are good 'n all but it's promoting low quality posts and ... to a degree spamming. It's really disheartening when you witness regular posters turn to the qualities we loathe. God bless 'em for working on the database, but a quick peak at the forums and you notice who the spammers are.

I like the rewards, don't get me wrong, but maybe there's another way to distribute them among users. ya know, a way that measures the quality of a user. That's food for thought anyway.

On topic. I want color customization to walls! I want to paint mine pink!

I don't know how much the community has been kept up to date with what's going on, so I won't say anything, but roll on the new year!!

I can't wait for VGChartz to go back to basics (so to speak) hopefully this eliminates a lot of certain users that don't enjoy good quality sales discussion.

I like badges as well but hardly anyone values them here unfortunately, which makes them somewhat worthless : perhaps that and gamrrewards (which is going in a couple of weeks) wernt the best ideas, but at least they were tried and tested.

Could we have the ability to see a top 200 again? And be able to select console/publisher on the charts?

I totally agree with this basically. If the new site will be anything like the old VGC (before 2008/2009), with an intelligent community and good sales discussions, I'm really looking forward to it.

The real task will be getting all of the users that made this place what it was to come back. I was going through the user list and it really seems like the last of the old guard fizzled out by July of this year. Part of that is due to the site losing its soul, but I believe it's also because we're in the twilight years of this generation, and it's put sales talk in a sort of limbo. 3DS has no direct competition and though the next gen is but a year away, it's still not tangible enough to really get the sales talk going yet.

Tag - "No trolling on my watch!"

Can we go back to the blue and white color scheme that the original Vgchartz designed used? It's an appealing color scheme used by websites from Facebook to Gamefaqs. The current color scheme is rather overwhelming and I think a return to the basics as far as design would help a lot.

I noticed that the front page has been cleaned up a bit and it's a great first step. I think you're doing an awesome job ioi, so best of luck with the site.

A return to the VGC's glory days .

I think the old debates by fan boys were interesting. With out them this site lost its appeal. I think the stats are pretty accurate. This site seems to have turned into a video game store with sales figures not the interesting forum it used to be. A lot of the contributors who I like grew up or got banned.

That's sad because these users will never return :(.  The bans here are getting controversial.

Quite the opposite, things are finally starting to get cleared up, which has been sorely needed for a long time.

I heavily disagree .
