Forums - Nintendo - Iwata: "could be a Nintendo 3DS software title which does not use the 3D feature"

They should make a 3DS game where you have a character that helps you out and flies around and outside the screen. In other words they should make Navi in 3D! Then people will realize how important 3D is because they won't have a helpful character like Navi flying around and outside the screen saying "HEY! LISTEN!" if they don't have 3D!....

LOL can you imagine if they made Navi in the Ocarina of Time remake in 3D?

*This post does not share my view that 3D is or is not a useless feature.

It's old news, they already says prior to the 3DS release that they will not force every game to be in 3D. And as argued before, there are some case where the 3D add nothing to the game and game play.

But we must first concentrate ourselves on the way to entertain people, for video games to live. Else, it's a world where sales representative will win, which has as effect to kill creativity. I want to say to the creators all around the world:"Courage, Dare!". Shigeru Miyamoto.

The 3D effect is about a new type of visuals. You CAN'T tell me better visuals don't add to a game.

Ha finally even Nintendo fans are ready to admit it :D

I really don't see the big deal here. The simple existence of the 3D slider has always suggested that 3D is optional.

A non-3D game can be a success on a 3D system in the same way that a sub-HD game can be a success on an HD console. Please see Call of Duty...

Is this supposed to be news? Not all DS titles used both screens, did they? Not all Wii titles used motion controls either. Not every single game released on the 3DS has to make use of 3D just because it's the main feature of the console.

But this confirms 3D is a pointless feature.

Why? Did Brawl confirm that motion was a useless feature? Some games benefit from it and others don't - it's as simple as that, I'd think.

I own two PS2s, a PSP, two 360s, a Dreamcast, and a MONSTER gaming PC. I've never been only a Nintendo fan, and I've always said graphics can add to a game.

What? The substance is the artwork and content, not how they are presented. You're confusing that with style, which makes you look ignorant, for confusing the two.

It's like claiming two copies of a painting are different substances, just because one is on a postcard and one is on a huge canvas. The substance is what is on the painting, which does not change.

Absolutely and factually untrue. Paintings are more than just what they depict; much of a painting is contained in its medium, in the angle of strokes and the thickness of paint, which are important for conveying mood, theme, and the school of art that informed its creation. You can learn things about paintings at full size that you would never be able to tell on a postage stamp.

Another point I forgot to mention - Blazblue Continuum Shift II - a game that's already been released for 3DS - is NOT a 3D title.

So non-3D games have already been produced for 3DS and this isn't "new" news at all - it's just Iwata making it clear to those that may have been confused.

I, for one, am excited to see what kinds of quality visuals are produced for games that don't use 3D effects. Without diverting processing power to 3D whatsoever, the devs can produce noticeably better graphics. And I'm not sure, but I think they'd also be able to utilize the entire top screen's resolution - they wouldn't have to split it in half for the 3D effect.

Granted, it's still limited to 240 pixels for the vertical measurements, but still. I'm eager to see what potential visuals they produce in the end.
