Forums - Gaming - Have you ever had "gamers burnout"?

Hey guys/girls/misc.,

I have been a gamer since the N64/PSX/Saturn era of gaming (I am now 23). I played through many games until I purchase a playstation 2. The PS2 I went through many games but still missed some gems and underated/unappreciated ones. This generation i purchased a Wii & PS3 and borrowed my friends 360 to play Gears of War 1/2, Halo 1/2/3/Reach/ODST, Too Human, Alan Wake, etc.

Now that I have played most games this generation I began buying old PS2 games such as Okami, Rogue Galaxy, Dark Cloud, Jak, etc. that I did not play last generation. Recently I finished Enchanted Arms for the PS3. Normally after finishing a game I will move onto the the next one on my list. However for the first time in my life I did not want to touch an RPG (I did not want to grind to advance, etc.). In fact I did not want to play any game really.

I feel like I need to take a month off and hopefully I will be re-charged for the fall lineup which looks AMAZING.

So Gamers, have you ever felt burnout? Cheers!

yes i have. I am actually still in an rpg burnout. I just can't get into them at all lately. even fps i have not been playing as much. Its back to RTS for me! But its good to take some time away from gaming. You may get back into it you may not.

great thread, yes of course I get gamers burnout. I frequently get it when playing fps. not so much rpg's because I have tonnes of them. I actually get burnt out on WOW very frequently because there is too much repetition in that game.

I am actually starting to return to gaming from somewhat of a hiatus. For a while I was playing Reach mainly to talk with friends while wasting time. However now I feel like actually playing my games. I've ended a few recently and it seems like it will last a while.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Yes regularly, but that's a great opportunity to catch up on some movies that piled up. It usually happens after finishing a couple of great games, then the rest doesn't seem that fun anymore.
Most recently it was after finishing the Witcher 2 and Terraria. Then I watched a couple of movies including the extended edition of LOTR and now I'm hooked on Catherine.

I had a gamers burnout last year when I was in the middle of an insane trophy hunt. I was racking up platinums and playing through so many games..then I played SAW the game for a platinum and after I completed it I couldn't play games anymore for like a month. I was mentally drained from it all. When I got back into gaming I stopped playing for trophies, and ever since then no burnouts for me.

Yeah. I don't know whether it's from playing for so damn long (nearing over 2 decades now) or just because there have been so many bad games released in the last half decade that i have to keep to older games and I'm jsut bored of them.
