No one is actually "lowering" their standards by purchasing FFXIII. People keep crying as if FFXIII is the worst JRPG ever released, when in reality it is more polished and better scripted than most JRPGs this gen. Sure, it deviates from the Final Fantasy standard, but it is by no means a bad game; it's definitely better than certain JRPGs like SO4 and WKC. And quite frankly, a true JRPG fan would be glad with whatever they get. Handhelds still have quality JRPGs, but I think the only way to pave a direction for good JRPGs on home consoles is by supporting at least the decent ones that are released, Final Fantasy being one of them.

This is where you're wrong.  One of the major things the white knights for the game are claiming is that people hate Final Fantasy XIII becuase it's different or that it deviates from a formula and I can assure you that is not why people hate it, at least not why most people I know hate it and most certainly not why I hate it.  In fact, most people can agree that change is good, it protects from the stagnant and helps to bring games forward.  I was one of the huge supporters of the changes FFXII brought, and that ended up being one of my favorite games of all time.

The fact of the matter is that Final Fantasy XIII sucks becuase it's broken, not because it's different.  The gameplay was sped up so it would appeal more to western audiences, but in the process lost most of its polish and depth.  To make a combat system work with that kind of speed requires a sacrifice of control, which is why we have a game that practically plays itself.  the game as a whole was the turn based equivalent of a rail shooter as it gives you no choice in where to go or what to do, and there's practically no customization (in fact you could only equip a weapon and accessory).  whatever happened to the days where you got to equip your head, body, legs, each arm, and two accessories?

The reason people hate it isn'[t becuase it's different or linear, they hate it becuase it's broken and restrictive.

That, and many other things already said...

First it depends on whether I've managed to get my PS3's Blu-ray drive fixed by then. But let's forget that now.

It depends on whether they've screwed up the story, characters (I already hate Noel, love Lightning), and how random the battles will feel with their awful-sounding Mog Clock system. I hate random battles, and that's exactly what Mog Clock seems to bring in the game. In fact, it's a feature that could kill the game alone for me.

so let me get this straight, I explain in a detailed, rational way why FFXIII is a bad game and that makes me a whiner, or a child, or whatever it is you're insinuating I am?  Based on this response I imagine it's not me who has to grow up.

will get it on launch day, even though i dont like noel and sarah as the main characters this time around at all. i still love the ff series alot, so i will buy the game. i was hoping lighting would have been the main character still, for this game, thats the main aspect of ff13-2 that doesnt set well with me.

loved ff13 alot, i know alot of ppl didnt. but thats ok, i have beaten it 4 times between the ps3 and 360 systems. for me ff13 redeemed the series alot, because for me ff12 is one of the worst jrpg's i have ever played, i was ready to give up on the series because of my hatred for ff12.

JRPGs on home consoles are pretty much dead. If you're a fan of JRPGs then you can't be picky with what you get. I'm personally buying it because I loved FFXIII.

So JRPG fans should lower there standards just because there isnt that much to play?? There wasnt that much in the SNES/Gen days and those games are better than the ones this gen (handhelds excluded). I can only speak for myself, but i rather just stop playing JRPGs, until devs pull there heads out of their asses

OT, where is the option to wait till the price plummets?? Cause thats what ill probably do. and screw reviews those were the same fools throwing 90s at this game.

Some mag/site even gave it a 100.

Man, they must get paid really well ;)

And yeah, I'm ignoring reviews as well. With an avg score of 83, that game is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overrated.

It's got the lowest Metacritic score of any 3D main series FF. Heck, even FFXI: Online and FFX-2 have higher scores.

Not surprising, those were better games IMHO.

And 83 is to high. I would give thise game an 80 at the absouluet highest. I would bet my left testicle that had this game not been called FF it would not have scored or sold as much

The irony of it all is, FF13-2 will fix all the problems people had with FF13. If the game does not succeed in the eyes of SE, they will get the message that people do not buy games based on all those details and they can pull a FFX13 again as long as its pretty.

So um... FF13 haters, support FF13-2 if it truly is the game we all wanted in the first place or else what is there to complain about.
