Forums - Microsoft - 360 passes 55m !!

Lmao at all the critics who doubted the XBox 360 and predicted its failure to sell 40 million console sales ltd. Do you want salt with that tasty crow?

X360 should continue to sell for the next few years. 70 million to 80 million sales ltd is possible.

Microsoft had two great gaming years, their efforts in 2007 and 2008 are commendable and they deserve the success. Hopefully they can get themselves back on track gaming wise, but as far hardware sales go, they've done a great job.

I feel 2010 was good as well, with Splinter Cell, Alan Wake, Reach and Fable. I do wonder if MS have given up that sort of line up, I won't be happy if they have, as I don't really like most MS eclusives, not the ones they concentrate on anyway.

360 has had very few rare exclusives in its almost 6 year lifespan. Console exclusives shared with PC and timed exclusives have increased the 360s exclusive games list. 360 has done exceptionally well with rare exclusive games. Third party games are the key to the 360s success.

360 now has lots of console exclusives on the way all thanks to the launch of Kinect: innovation motion control with no need for any controller. The XBox 360 Slim redesign breathes new life into the XBox 360. There is still lots of life left in the aging XBox 360: almost 6 years and sales.

Capturing the casual gamer market with the Kinect and also offering HD games, great online makes the XBox 360 a great gaming console for all gamers.

55 million- check. 60 million end of 2011- confirmed. 65 million and 70 million console sales milestones are locked in for 2012/13.

XBox 360 may finish third eventually but it will be a competitive and profitab le generation for Microsoft's XBox gaming empire.

Your right, 2010 was a pretty good year for them. I don't know why they're taking the route they're taking now, Kinect is doing well for them but it's not dominating the market or anything and the same goes for the software sales of titles that aren't Kinect Adventures. My guesses would be that they'd rather cool down for now and come out fighting with their next console, they'd now prefer to spend $5 million on making a casual game instead of $20 to $30 million on a more traditional game (risk vs reward) or maybe they just don't have the workforce or the ideas to go through with a whole new project.

I hope they can at least find a balance at some point, I really like my 360 but a Child of Eden rental and Gears of War 3 aren't helping to strengthen my ties to the console or the company, though I'm sure most people can get over that bump with their ties to Live.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Good milestone. Wonder what the number will be here on out? I wonder if Kinect will get a price cut and push the unit sales this holiday through the roof. If I was MS I would cut Kinect price. I'm sure they have pushed down manufacturing cost and this would help to install a healthy base to keep the new games moving off the shelf. They also have to push the core games out there or do what PS3 does and make the game Kinect ready with the choice to just use a controller. Make sure to cater to both crowds, not just one.

Yay?

But it will be DOWN YoY, quite heavily, this year. I don't remember anyone saying it wouldn't reach 55mil...the Wii, maybe, and when the PS3 launched, but not the 360... However, having said that, well done 360! It'll be interesting to see from here what happens. Will it plummet? I suppose in 2013 we'll know!

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

*Yawn* actually they have a very good chance of being up yoy in sales, but most definitely shipped, stop commenting on stuff you don't have the faintest clue on.

Not to mention, everyone here in 2007 said 360 would die at 35/40 mill, including site analyst Source.

And just cos Wii is plummeting doesn't mean 360 will.

Edit - Actually you just came in here to hate, clearly.

55 million is a great performance coming off the Xbox sales (even allowing for it's relatively short lifespan). With a reasonable (ahem) tail of ongoing sales the final tally for the 360 should be very impressive.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
