Also, the game idea sounds wicked!

My 2 cents:

Don't forget some type of mini 'game builder' where the player can build and play a short game--like a platformer with two levels or an rpg with 3 fights =D

or we could just go the cheapo way and make a Starcraft/Age of Empires Mod.

PS3 - Protoss?
XBOX - Terran?
Wii - Zerg?

That would be fun too.

Also:

-1st party development. You have 2 'executive decisions' at the start of the game. You can use these to a) pick 1 genre for your first-party teams to excel at and one area (such as PR) that they excel in b) 2 genres or c) something like PR and advertising.

-It can be like Zoo Tycoon, where the location you choose to operate (ie Japan) drastically affects parts of your business, like how well a certain genre does.

-Multiplayer: speaks for itself. Have 2 or more companies duke it out to see who can get the most profit in a set amount of time, or who can make the most popular game, or some other setting.

OK then, when I have a demo in a few days I'll post it in a new topic for feedback.

Using VG Chartz is a great idea. I won't make it commercial; in fact I'll give out the source code (not C, but a game making program with a scripting language).

When you first start, you choose a fictional company; each has strengths and weaknesses

You are given a budget. You can design your console and build the company. Your competitors are randomly created.

You are shown the console launch. Each week, you must attract new games from publishers or develop your own, manufacture and distribute your console, manage your budget, create or respond to random events and use VG Chartz to track software and hardware sales of you and your competitors.

It will be an ongoing simulation.

Now, don't get too ambitious. I am not doing (online) multiplayer, a game builder of any kind (although perhaps a small easter egg game would be possible) or any 3D work.

No. Local multiplayer would be possible but having two simulations on one computer would be impossible to fairly control, and no althogether in terms of online multiplayer.

If you want to help, PM me with your suggestions or artwork.

yeah, I was thinking of a crappy text-based visual basic game myself. Even Baseball Mogul is text based and its one of the more successful games out there.

If people want to add pictures and stuff, then have them email you and then you can put them somewhere, or you can set up some kind of skin system if they want to get fancy and set their own pictures

Actually, it will be easier to do graphical. Simple skinning will be possible but not in a first release.

^^I'm assuming that he'll probably have the pictures in a folder of some type, so you could probably just drag/drop it into the proper folder to put it in, and its in-game name would be the filename (ie if you want to add "Super Smash Bros" you would add a picture of the cover to the name folder and name the file "Super Smash Bros")

@Game_Boy: Sorry if I sounded overambitious with my suggestions. For a second I forgot we weren't were just fantasizing about a game from a big company

Oh, and yes skinning will be putting images in a folder. I'll swap out the sprites in game for the ones in the folder.

No promises for features or dates.

Oh, resolution will be 1024x768 to fit in chart page and new ticker. Any problems? Have some people only got 800x600 displays?

Just an idea here, use it or not: Have the option to put out a demo for the game (which would make development take a little longer) and get a general feel for if people like it or not.

Question: What are you going to do about rival console developers?
