Forums - Sales - Now Nintendo has the Top 10 Best-Seller Games in History

The list just proves that Nintendo dominates their own consoles and that third party franchises appear to do better on other systems (at least since the SNES).

just wondering, but did you notice the only game on this list that is fromt he last 10 years is Nintendogs... The reason 3rd party games since the SNES aren't up as high is because the user base has been low the last 2 generations. Everyone who bought the N64 bought it for N games since every other devoloper went over to PSX. Even capcom was weak on the N64... The advantage that the N64 had over GC was they had Rare in their prime.

It can be a little annoying to see leoj say something stupid in every thread here.

Yes its annoying when this site has 5 games added to one making it look like nintendo has the best software sales, were in fact its a lie.

1)The Sims is in 11th, but has many expasions, I haven't seen you complaining about that.

2)And......... do some reaserch, look also for the biggest selling franchises of games ever.

3)Do you think that people buy the always 2 versions of the game??

4)Pokemon Pearl/Diamond are the same journey, the difference is only in the monsters you can get.

1) The expansions are not included in the total sales.

2) Look to what I write at 1) then you know you did better some reseacher yourself ;).

3+4) Their were some people who bought Blue and Red. Ten years ago I got the blue version and later for my
Birthday the red version. About Nintendogs you are probably right.

I had a bigger list, but i couldn't find the link.

Why would I need more reaserch? I have this.

1. Mario: 193 m
2. Pokémon: 155 m
3. Final Fantasy: 68 m
4. Madden NFL: 56 mi
5. The Sims: 54 m
6. Grand Theft Auto: 50 m
7. Donkey Kong: 48 m
8. The Legend of Zelda: 47 m
9. Sonic the Hedgehog: 44 m
10. Gran Turismo: 44 m
11. Lineage: 43 m
12. Dragon Quest: 41 mi
13. Crash Bandicoot: 34 mi
14. Resident Evil: 31 m
15. James Bond: 30 m
16. Tomb Raider: 30 m
17. Mega Man: 26 m
18. Command & Conquer: 25 m
19. Street Fighter: 25 m
20. Mortal Kombat: 20 m

So, expassion for The Sims weren't counted? ....... ok than.

___________________________________________________________________

As you said, SOME PEOPLE did buy both versions. But PEOPLE who bought pokemon and Nintendogs have bought the different versions? Do you see the semantic difference?

Dude you include NFL, but what about FIFA sales? The game sells millions every generation, and its been going for about 15 years i think...not to mention spin off games theyve had. Pro Evo + ISS soccer would be high too

The GT series argument goes out the door with it also being a pack in at one time, if you want to exclude pack-ins, but when you think about it games become pack ins because they sell well in the first place, if a game sells millions and most consumers that buy the console also buy the game with the console, well the smart thing to do is just go ahead and put it with the system, they've already made their money and then some with the software they help the consumer money wise so they get a great game with the console, then they save money... to buy OTHER games.

The game industry has had some trouble the past couple of generations, mainly with third parties, in the past a small third party could come up and make money with the game industry, with the past generation the only third parties to make money were huge companies, Blizzard, Activision, EA, etc. lots of small companies died out and the small companies are the main ones that bring new ideas and take risks and with the Wii its cheaper to develop for so it could help those third parties sell games and save money, so therefore you can say Wii saved the game industry again.

It is good to see facts put out there that Nintendo has done a lot for the industry and the software sales reflect that, Nintendo does a lot to take risks and try to make something for everyone, with the NES it was hard for them to even get retailers to even carry the system they put the money out there to make it a safe bet for retailers, money which most game companies didn't have at the time, so not just any company could have came along and resurrected the game industry in America. Cheers to Nintendo, and if you don't see the things they're done for you as a gamer then you should but the controller down and probably put your head in a meat grinder before coming to this forum to air out your ignorance and bad spelling/grammar.

No , hes not ignorant , but Nintendogs are basicly different game . I hate when they count both Pokemon versions in to ...

Oh and Tetris , Duck Hunt , SMB , Wii Sports are all bundled ... so go figure :)

So when you hate things they should be adjusted? I would love that to happen. Yea i hate working too, but can i stop doing it? I really doubt that ;)

Nope , Im fine with those numbers , just that sometimes people praise Nintendo a bit more than they deserve ...

And others don't praise them enough

The only memorable thing they did IMO was that they resurected the gaming industry in 85 ... and common , if Nintendo wouldent have done that , than a nother company would have ...

Not that they didnt do nothing , and man theyb had some great games , but that doesnt means that other gaming companys didnt do at least as good , if not batter ;)

I'm sorry; but this post does not, in any way whatsoever, make your opinion more credible. Your grammar is hideous, your spelling atrocious, and your logic is flawed. First of all, Nintendo ressurected the console industry in the US single-handedly. This was quite an achievement, was it not? Nintendo has been making games to the same great standard for twenty years now! No other gaming company can say that their standards haven't fallen during their company's history. Nintendo keeps producing great games one after another, never failing to satisfy its customers.

Who deserves more praise than Nintendo? One man, and that is Ralph Baer. The man who created the first video game console, the Magnavox Odyssey.

My god ... is this all you can say . You pick on my grammar ... WTF ? When people do that I know that I really pissed them off . Bealive me , saving back than the video game industry didnt take much . Get a cheap console , with some decent 1st party games , and you have a saved market ... its not like the video game industry was dead , it was just stagnating .

PS : if you dont like my hideous grammar , my atrocious spelling or my flawed logic , than dont answer to my post ... its simple as that :)

Nintendo made everybody believes that videogames were back again, despite the mass lack of quality of the previous atari games.

@ hunter_alien

As far as I knew, the story went that after the abominable failure before the NES, the situation was so bad that retailers refused to stock anything related to video games owing to how badly burned they'd been before. Nintendo had to invent gyromite as a robot add-on because it was the only way under which shops would consider carrying video-games.

Nintendo did US focus tests on Super Mario Brothers, and eight-year-olds were denouncing it, and I practically quote "this is a piece of shit". This was the attitude they were fighting.

The mere IDEA of gaming had become the preserve of uber-geeks waggling joysticks in their parent's garage.

Gaming was certainly on the way out, and the world wasn't about to let it back in. It took Nintendo fighting against every piece of advice, analyst and big corporation to drag gaming kicking and screaming back into the forefront, and it took their unique vision to see it could be sold as a fun toy to kids, rather than remain the preserve of freaks and geeks. Sure, anyone with that much balls could do it, but the fact is, after the many failures before, no one would, no one did, and no one thought ANYONE ever could again.

Well I'm tired of everyone bitching and complaining about the games being stocked together. If ya don't like it fine. But you also now have to seperate every seperate version of everything that ever existed in the gaming industry. Seeing that its only MS and Sony fans complaining I'll put it so. PS2 has not sold 115 milion. No the original PS2 has only sold about 75 million, and the slim the rest of that number. PS3 has not sold close to 8 million. With 4 different versions all need to be seperated. 360 has not sold 16 million. Once again with 3-4 different versions all shall be seperated.

If you are going to say that the slight differences in the Nintendogs and Pokemon games can't be counted together than the hardware combos that have been done shan't be togehter either. So either put a sock in your loud mouth, or start separating. Otherwise Nintendogs, the POkemon games, and consoles all are only slight different from one another and basically the same line of game, making them the same package.

Preach it!

Hunter alien,

If anyone could do it, why didn't the Microsoft-led and Sony-backed MSX build the Japanese game market and resurrect the American one?

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.
