Forums - Gaming - is emulating piracy?

snakenobi said:

yeah but how do you use an emulator,u can't use it without rom's or ripping games

and people make games based on console not where you could play it.that way everybody would start making pc games as everything could be emulated.

that way the the recent injunctions of PS3 jailbreak usb's shouldn't have stopped.they weren't even using open source but their own code to fool the PS3 of this

and get a better place than wiki to prove things.

1. You can stick your games into your computers disc drive and play them like that? Like I already said you could do with Dolphin?

2. huh?

3. http://www.ps3breakstore.com/. Sony temporarily stopped the sales of them, but ultimately lost in most places. Too lazy to look up the rest. A quick Google search and I was able to find a couple shops that sell them. And what does this have to do with emulation?

4. Y'know what. Get a source at all that serves your argument and I will bother getting a better source than Wiki

1. I learn something new every day. In the US it is legal to make back-ups of software. So if you own a game, you can legally rip it to your computer. Then there is nothing stopping you from using an emulator.

2. I got a little bored and looked up the Connectix lawsuit. They were being sued for selling PS emulators, and they were sued by Sony to stop it. Sony lost, and they were free to continue selling their emulators.

not sure but after so many years isnt it not considered illegal anymore or something?

Close.

The term you're looking for is abandonware, and it has nothing to do with the age of the game, it has to do with whether or not it is still possible to find legitimate copies of the game firsthand.

SMB is very old, but you can buy it on the virtual console, the IP is still going strong, the company that made it is going strong.

Dungeon Keeper is considered abandonware. It is no longer being manufactured or sold firsthand. The company that makes it has 'abandoned' the game.

Of course, what counts as abandoned is often a grey area.

Dungeon Keeper is sold at GoG.com, it isn't abandonware.

there is nothing stopping you from anything.you can do anything,we are here trying to know whether it is piracy or not

the reason the US backing up is legal is cause it normally one's right to back up

but what it leads to is piracy

that way all the recent PS3 backing up should have also been normal but it wasn't it was leading up to piracy

sony did stop the sales everywhere atleast in first world countries

after that they didn't care to stop as they had a firmware solution

follow the ps3 piracy case and u will know

Well, I'd guess that it is often far worse for the industry. I know an insane number of people who didn't bother with a GBA/DS because they emulated them on their computer. Considering it only requires a few clicks to download an emulator and whatever game you want for it and the fact that it robs companies of the money they should've made on the hardware as well as the software, it would be easy for it to completely kill some consoles.

lol what? It was only banned in 2 countries for a little bit. Spain(where Sony had to pay the distributors back the court costs when they lost), and Australia(for a couple months). They tried and failed in England. Maybe you should pay more attention. Hell, i found a page for a sold out one on amazon.uk xD

The fact that you aren't even arguing my other points kind of depends my feelings you know you lost this

yeah cause they now have a firmware solution

what u don't understand is what it leads to

I know what it leads to. I just don't see what it has to do with your argument. I get that the USB thing allows piracy, but it doesn't have anything to do with emulation.

And no, it was unbanned in Spain before they even had a chance to have it banned in the UK(where they failed). They got a temporary injunction in AU, but it ran out, they never successfully got it completely banned from any country. Let alone from the entire 1st world

emulating is the same as most people don't insert their games in their pc but download them

that way their would be no meaning of licensing fee that devs pay ninty, sony, microsoft for every game

they failed some places but they were succesfull other places and along they were working at firmware solution which came along,so they left pursuing the usb thing
