Forums - Microsoft - Why the Dis-Kinect with Kinect?

This is a question about ratio, not about sales in an absolute sense, because I expected the ratio of Kinect sales to 360s to be reasonably even across the world, but it's not.

So this week's Kinect to 360 sales for the main 360 regions are:

Americas - slightly over 1:2

EMEAA - slightly under 1:3

The LTD ratios are:

Americas - 1:5

EMEAA - 1:7

This isn't an issue of Kinect or 360 doing well or poorly. In absolute numbers Kinect has sold well in both regions. But the sales ratio difference is quite marked between the 2. I would have expected maybe a 0.3 difference.

Why is it that people across EMEAA who own or have chosen to buy a 360 not buying Kinect in the same proportions as people in America? Is there something about the games that aren't so appealing across the board? Is it a price thing? Is it not available in some EMEAA markets? Is it because 360 is more likely to be in a relatively cramped bed room in EMEAA making Kinect impractical as opposed to Americas where it's in a family room or a game room where there's plenty of space?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

I feel very KINECTED with my KINECT.

Space have surely something to do with that.  There's much more big living room in North America vs Europe.  Not alot of people in Paris or London have space to play Kinect with ease.

Yes, Europeans don't have living rooms.

Is there a reason why anything VG related is always placed under rumour on N4G?

they're waiting actually price cut

It means Europeans are definitely Diss-Kinected!!!

Europeans are hardcore. Americans are casual.

Certainly there is a pricing issue and once that goes down expect it to pick up pretty decently in Europe, but I would think that the biggest issue for Kinect in Europe is the language barrier as it only launched with English, Japanese and Mexican [Spanish] support and I am unsure as to whether further language support has been added yet.

As far as space is concerned there should be absolutely no problem, if kinect is perfectly usable in most UK houses then it should be usable in most houses in the entire first world as these articles state

yes the average floorspace of a UK home (76m2) is smaller than that of the average Japanese home (94.85m2)
