Hey guys,

I was looking back to previous generations and thinking about the dominant genres at the time. The PS1, N64 days were heavily influenced/dominanted by platformers and RPGs.

Then the PS2 & Xbox were dominanted/influenced by Sand Boxes (GTA, etc) and RPGs

The PS3 & 360 has been dominated by First Person Shooters (Call of Duty anyone). There has also been a SHARP decline in other genres (RPGs, Platformers, etc).

SOOOO this begs the question; What genre will dominate next generation. IMO (for what it's worth) the FPS market is already saturated and many will tire of the: move forward, kill enemies, move forward, repeat cycle that we are currently experiencing. It is a tough question. I think that the interactive drama market (Heavy Rain, LA Noire) will pick up, and hack & slash's will increase to greater levels (God of War, Devil May Cry)

Has motion got its own genre yet?

I have a feeling its still gonna be fps. Or maybe whatever bungie is making (MMO FPS?). Next gen is going to be a lot like this gen i think.

Hopefully RPG's. :)

I kinda agee with spartan. I think when Next gen rolls by it will be fairley similer to this gen in terms of game popularity. FPS's i think will always be the most popular genre in America because of its competitive online mode that most have.

And other Places like Europe and Japan its a litte more diverse.

That is a good point. FPS are never as fun for single player but now that multi-player is functional and popular, FPS & MMO's are most suited for this market.
I hope next generation is not similar to this but it appears likely.

The RPGs will take off and will look so good that shooters will be in after thought.

Which genre will dominate? I don't have a clue.

Which genres I want to dominate? Third person shooters and adventure games. Games Mass Effect, Uncharted, etc.

I want JRPG's, Platformers and Action/Adventure. I just hoping that Japan realized how uninfluential they were this Gen and find find a way development that suites them. They Cant dfag behind Next gen.
