Forums - Sony - Sony to start production of PS4,late 2011

Sony will have Taiwan-based partners begin production of PlayStation 4 (PS4) featuring body movement-based control like Kinect at the end of 2011 for launch in 2012, according to Taiwan-based component makers.

Foxconn and Pegatron Technology, assemblers of PS3, will undertake assembly of PS4 as well, the sources pointed out. The planned shipment volume of PS4 in 2012 is at least 20 million units, the sources indicated.

Im pretty surprised at this news if its true. I always thought that ps4 would release after xbox720, and especially considering the 10 year ps3 lifetime sony management have been going on about.

Its a new PS3 model.

If they're planning to ship 20 million units in 2012, they're in for a big disappointment in sales; considering the PS3 can't do those numbers even now.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Why do you open up another thread, repeating the same nonsense as in the other one?

I doubt whether this will have any impact on PS3 sales if this is true. Somehow the PS2 is still around so the PS3 should last many more years to come. At the earliest I expect a release at the end of 2012 (if I'm honest I didn't expect a release until 2013).

PS2 has over 10 year life span although PS3 was released 6 years after PS2. Sony said PS3 will have 10 year life span just like PS2. If they support and manufacture PS3 few years after PS4 is released, then it is 10 years. Life span doesn't mean time from generation to  generation, it means how long console is supported and manufactured. Then again, I think that quote was just marketing, they start new generation when ever it is necessary and cut support when supporting PS3 isn't profitable. 10 year life span is probably already forgotten in Sony headquarters.

A new ps3 model featuring motion control? Doesnt seem likely to me.

It is possible but I wouldn't count on it ...

Ummm what do you mean dude? Did you already forget that the PS2 released around PS1's like 5th year on the market? Yet the support still continued for nearly 10+ years? Did you also forget that PS3 released also around PS2's 5th or 6th year yet at nearly the 11th year PS2 still gets support (now it's less but several games still come out), therefore this would still fall in line with Sony's 10 year plan.

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.
