Forums - Sales - Which console will see sales crash hardest in the coming weeks?

Percentage is definitely going to be the PS3. It just went through its first holiday season in Europe and received a great price drop right before that point. I expect it to crash pretty hard in January and February.

The 360 should maintain its point from last year, except slightly more so. The lower price (though not low enough) and its games should power it slightly through early 08 more than it did 07.

The Wii will see the largest numerical drop because Nintendo won't be able to provide the numbers that made it sell so well through the holidays. Expect it to continue to sell out and virtually nothing will change.

I tend to agree with your assessment of the PS3 though I think it will be bolstered by the fact that being the most expensive console makes it the least appealing post X-mas as people are hurting in the wallet as it is....to be clear yes this effects everyone but I am saying that psychologically it will have a far bigger impact on potential PS3 customers than 360 or Wii customers.

==> PS3, I agree

Time to Work !

if this is the week after the 300+% rise for Wii. I will vote Wii.

 Here's a chart someone made of Japan's recent sales total according to Media Create.

As you can see, as most consoles saw a noticable rise in sales over the last month -- which is normal, as Japan sees large boosts in sales at this time of year too -- the PS3 basically treaded water, and actually decreased in sales on several occasions, which is uncommon (PSP only dropped once, due to a new color SKU being released the week prior). That tells us that the new color / new SKU / price drop effects are wearing off at almost exactly the same rate as the holiday sales were ramping up.

But in a few weeks, the holidays will be gone, and its safe to assume the price drop effect won't come back.

I do, however, think that the PS3 has established a new and higher standard in the EU. It's a little early to say that conclusively, but given the time of year, maintaining this sort of marketshare over this time frame is especially impressive.

I'm going to disagree with a few of you here and say that the 360 will have the biggest percentage drop. In terms of overall sales I expect the wii to remain number 1, ps3 no2 and 360 to be last.

I say this because while there will obviously be a huge drop after the holidays are over the ps3 has a lower pricepoint and superior library compared to the same time last year. And finally it has Europe sales where it wasn't even selling until March 07.

It's also the first holiday season for the PS3 in the EU. Combine that with its price drop (enormous in Euros) and that has a lot to do with it. When push comes to shove, it is still an expensive unit with few games to offset its price.

% - ps3
absolute number of sales - ds

are my thoughts

The Wii and DS will only fall so far as is allotted by the available supply. Expect to see some impressive legs for both early this 2008.

Thats a pretty compelling argument for the effects of the PS3 price cut wearing off.
