Here's a chart someone made of Japan's recent sales total according to Media Create.

As you can see, as most consoles saw a noticable rise in sales over the last month -- which is normal, as Japan sees large boosts in sales at this time of year too -- the PS3 basically treaded water, and actually decreased in sales on several occasions, which is uncommon (PSP only dropped once, due to a new color SKU being released the week prior). That tells us that the new color / new SKU / price drop effects are wearing off at almost exactly the same rate as the holiday sales were ramping up.

But in a few weeks, the holidays will be gone, and its safe to assume the price drop effect won't come back.

Thats a pretty compelling argument for the effects of the PS3 price cut wearing off.
