Forums - Gaming - what's with the lack of RPG's this gen?

According to the VGC database there are

139 DS RPGs (all playable on your 3DS, btw)

90 PSP RPGs

72 Xbox360 RPGs

66 PS3 RPGs

27 Wii RPGs

available in USA (these numbers include upcoming RPGs). I bet the number of PC RPGs (incl. MMO) released since 2005 even tops the DS number.

Stop searching for them or claiming they don't exist. Go get some, e.g. The Witcher 2 (PC), Radiant Historia (DS) or Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls (PSN), to name just 3 RPGs released in 2011.

Lacks of JRPG for sure

WRPG? you can still find tons of WRPG this gen especially on PC: Risen, Darksang series, The Witcher seires, Divinity 2........

Not mention those big Franchises like Elder scrolls, Fallout , Dragon age, Mass effect and Fable

And alos don't forget games like Titan quest, Loki, Torchlight and Sacred 2 those good ARPGs

The future of WRPG lies on:

Elder scrolls V: Skyrim
Fable 4 (Maybe)
Star wars: the old republic
Mass effect 3
Diablo 3
Torchlight 2
Fallout 4
Dues Ex 3: HR (not a really RPG)
Risen 2
Sacred 3
Dragon age 3 (in development)
A new Darksang game
New Witcher game
Obsidian's new RPG project

There are loads on the DS, PSP and (in Japan) Wii.

It's just a lot of them never get localised. For example, Xenoblade is EU only, and Earth Seeker, The Last Story, Tales Of Graces (Wii) AND Pandora's Tower are all stuck in Japan for the Wii.

JRPG's are out there. But they won't be coming to a Wii anywhere near you anytime soon, sadly.

That honestly really is sad for all the Wii owners, all those JRPG's looked pretty awesome and they aren't bringing any of them to the West.  I just don't get why Ninty would do that.

Granted they aren't exactly gonna burn up the sales charts but given how few and far between the core games have been for the Wii that would have certainly helped keep that demographic healthy.

It would have been a great way to send out the Wii, yes. But Nintendo don't want to look 'weird' in front of their demographic, sadly. And they want to be 'hardcore', but they think that's the 13 year old guys who have only ever played COD swearing down the mic every 5 minutes, the group who'll never be seen dead on Nintendo consoles, and the dudes who I don't want on Nintendo consoles...

I could swear I saw a thread about this...

EDIT**

I did!

I'm really afraid that NoA is going to be heavily going after those "hardcore" gamers (as you described) next generation with the Wii U.  Unfortunately, that's what it is looking like right now.  I think if Nintendo does try to go after the FPS gamers, it's going to be as successful as MS was with going for the jRPG crowd.  The truth is most of those 13 year old "hardcore" gamers wouldn't be caught dead with a Nintendo console in fear that their friends on Xbox Live may call them fags.

IMO, wRPGs are even more cliched than jRPGs.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Um...What?

Noo...... Were getting just as many, if not more RPG's this gen. Last gen most RPG's were limited to the PS2, where X-Box and Gamecube only had a handful each. This gen there is a big split, and most RPG's are multiconsole. I mean just this year we have over 30. That's 2.5 RPG's a month!

Damn those Japs!!!

^Well that's obviously a joke, but hell no jRPGs are getting localized!

What's with people who don't own a DS bemoaning the apparent lack of RPGs this gen?
