Sony has hyped the return of virtual reality devices for gaming in an interview to promote the upcoming b.tween 3D event, claiming that virtual reality could represent the future of 3D content.


'Another thing that's coming back which I'm very excited is the notion of virtual reality,' said Sony's Mike Hocking, who discussed Sony's new head-mounted display (HMD) device. 'You can see that we can now get back to where we really wanted to get with virtual reality in the '80s'

'We've now got the power to do it, we've got the screen resolution to do it, we've got the processing power to update fast enough so we can have very immersive experiences on head-mounted displays in gaming in the not too distant future.'

'Being in a virtual world where I can see my virtual hands or a virtual gun with all the things we can do in the gaming world is going to be absolutely amazing,' he said.

Is the technology mature and affordable enough?

Hmmm, PS4 with virtual reality glasses for the graphics and move for the controls?

Just think how incredible that would be. The immersion would be unbelievable to a near creepy level. I love the idea personally, as long as they can make it affordable. This seems more like PS5 then PS4 level though.

Please no. If someone goes holographic gaming, I am all in. But this is just not going to work. Same console multi-player will fail, as will spectating. Please no, not this.

Why wouldn't you? Its decently sleek, albeit big. Have that refined, and smaller, hell even keep the general look and it would be fine. Moreso, you should stop thinking about how it looks, and more about how incredible the gameplay would be.

So you won't be able to see the friends and family you are smacking upside the head while trying to play! Brilliant!

this is what i said about Wii U, they just need to make the screen smaller and have it on your head and use the Wiimotes to play games while you move your head to look around like Ucontoler does
