That is filled with SO.MUCH.WIN!

He better be done with the small projects SOON. Because we all know that he's needed in a big damn RPG, and L5 does everything right except for story in theirs. He's there to rectify that!!!

DO IT!

SE has been sinking slowly while Level-5 took over the spotlight. It's a great time to jump ship.

Matsuno working on a DQ game?

I actually think that would be an aweful idea.

Being's matsuno's style is not DQ like in the least imo. And essentially, would mean he still worked for SE in a way :P

Personally, I'd like him to start something new.  (which Xxxxxxxain's article said) Not in ivalice or ogre battle universe (I love Vagrant story, tactics ogre, and ogre battle 64 btw). But that's just me. I think Level 5's the perfect company for him. I'm happy.

It would kinda be like Matsuno writing the story for a pokemon game.

Different stories and styles are needed for different worlds and gameplay.

Chances are he'd write a DQ story... a lot like how DQ stories are written.  Same with Pokemon.

I mean, would ANYONE have wanted a crazy geopolitical story in Wii sports?  Heck, any story would of made the game worse.

As for the story... I think all it does is reinforce and confirm a lot of the bad rumors and stereotypes about Square management currently.

I can't help but feel a lot of his fans MIGHT end up disappointed and betrayed by his level-5 works.

Matsuno from the few interviews i've seen always seems to have a bit of Miyamoto in him.

A wandering type who likes to invent to new ideas and who's main goal is to make games that as many people will like as possible while fulfilling his creative wishes.

It's just he was generally trapped by circumstance first by being part of a small company, and later... by being part of square, to do the same things he did well over and over again.

From his talk on dumbing down Final Fantasy Tactics story from his past work, and then that being more expanded in his later work on FF Tactics Advance... I come to the impression that Matsuno is someone who is a very good story writer... but to whom, the story isn't what's important.

He doesn't care if it's a giant geopolitical war, or whether it's one kid trying to get back home in a strange anime style "battle" world. He wants to create games, and then stories around the games. Not the other way around.

Given full freedom i bet the episodic Ogre Series would of had dozens of games, but with vastly different gameplay and even stories within the world, some focusing much more on the personal... or even doing things like running item shops.

Either way, i'm interested to see what he does.

Would you expand your horizons a little

Play some Ogre Battle 64 or Tactics Ogre, get a taste of something great

Darth told me he bought the Tactics Ogre remake a few months ago. Not sure what he thinks of it.

The game re-affirmed that I do not like SRPG's apart from Valkyria Chronicles. Its a shame because I was into the story, I wish there was just a cutscene viewer mode so I could at least see just the story.

Ogre Battle 64 sounds like a action RPG so I could try that on an emulator

@Mr T tar

NO NO NO NO NO

Dragon Quest is NOT Matsuno's style....do not mix the two!

I can understand that; I'm not that big of a fan of SRPG's gameplay aside from VC, but I enjoyed Tactics Ogre and FFTactics, mainly because of the story, and the customization (in Tactics Ogre). Tactics Ogre has choices and consequences, so a cutscene viewer mode wouldn't really do the story any justice. That was one of the beauties of the story.
