Forums - PC - CPU heat sinks

im looking to replace my heat sink, i ended up not being very happy in more ways than one with the sink i picked up, its not redlining my system but id like idle to sit a bit cooler i sit between 23-27 at idle now and top out at 80c under prime95. ive got an i7 2600k OC to 4.4,  have run it up to 4.7 stable but the prime 95 temps were at 88, and that was a bit much for me.

so out there in vgc land what do you use, or recommend

If your goal is to reduce the temps you can go with the Thermaltake Frio: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106150 or you could go with a self contained watercooling unit like the ones from Corsair or Antec.

If you also want low noise that Noctua will serve you well, or with the cheaper but equally good Gelid Tranquillo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835426023

this one is nice

Also Corsair H50/60/70 etc after fan swap are good and quiet.

That Noctua is great but i'm not sure if it's worth price premium.

I have a Noctua NH-U9B-SE2 for my i5 2500k OC at 5.1Ghz. Works a treat.

The noctua nh-d14 is good for quiet with overclocking. However. with my i7 920 @4.0ghz at 1.275 V Vcore is at coretemp max 82. with LLC disabled. Doing OCCT Linpack.

My temps are higher than most though. For a reason I can't figure out. (Maybe Case airflow, and the fact I live in Arizona)

But, the Noctua probably isn't worth the premium price tag. Unless low noise is a main concern (Which it was for me). And I got it for 50 dollars :). but, overall I've been dissapointed a bit with it. (Due to the extremely high praise it gets)

If noise isn't a factor, there's probably better cooling ones here for a lower price tag. That others have listed.
