The original slim had 65nm RSX and 45nm Cell. The 2500 slim cut it to 40nm RSX and 45nm Cell. But they didn't change the cooling for it. So this new 3000 model just adjusts the cooling system which should have been done with CECH-2000. Some peope just like to blow non-issues like this out of proportion.
isn't this the new model with an anti piracy Blu Ray drive? I mean sure you can complain about the other things but the most important thing for Sony was the new drive..

Come one, this is just downgrading the console to the basics.
It isn't worth the price cut in my opinion, they could have done far better things to reduce the cost.
Definitely get the 2500 models but not all are made the same (power consumption wise). I had to go through 3 PS3 to get the one I have now. The first one consumed 61 watts but made clicking noise and had to return it. The second one consumed 80 watts so I definitely didn't keep that one as I suspected it was fitted with the old chip that consumed more power. The one I have now consumes 56 watts so I am happy.
