It's simple.

I feel fulfilled when taking care of my close ones and adore the premise of teaching someone the ways of life and watching them grow and evolve into an independent thinker that knows how to make the correct and moral choices, and knows how to squeeze the most out of life... someone who is in touch with their innermost feelings and acts on them. (indpendent thinker/ me teaching the ways of life contradicts a bit, but I am about freedom, after all) - truly, I'm only 20, but by the time I do have kids, I will be far more experienced, and I think that I'd make for a fine Father.

(I am also cheesy as fuck and seem to constantly deviate into stuff, but regardless!)

You do seem quite cheesy, but I gotta admit that your innocent and naive reasoning is quite sweet. Hope raising children bring you happiness.

I've had personal experiences with children that have made me not want to actually dedicate important moments of my life to them. Just not really worth it all the sacrifices, to succumb to the myth perpetuated by society.

I believe that this'll change ;)

(having kids is worth it just so I can say "WE CAN RULE THE GALAXY AS FATHER AND SON!")

Thanks man!

Haha, I don't know if that will change, but who knows?

BTW, what if you have a daughter?

We rule as father and daughter, obviously. It just doesn't have that hammer sound :P

It also sounds a little bit pervy...

"I don't understand how someone could like Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, but not like Twilight!!!"

"Last book I read was Brokeback Mountain, I just don't have the patience for them unless it's softcore porn."

(The Voice of a Generation and Seece)

"If you cant stand the sound of your own voice than dont become a singer !!!!!"

This is a very good topic.

I've been thinking about it for a while. Especially recently since I'm getting married yet I'm playing more games than ever. How do I moderate the little guys? We know that gaming can be a slightly distructive or time-wasting activity at times.

So my solution:
1.Try to inspire them to feel passion for some other activities that are geniunely constructive. Math, Music, Arts, Cooking, Sports. If they do this then they might feel less attracted to sitting indoors in front of a TV all day.
2. I'll get them a NES to start out with at the age of 3, then and gradually go through the different Nintendo gens while they're young. When they're 12 or so then they can play what they like, as I'm sure they would be responsible enough not to completely fuck out at life by then.

You're getting married? But what about the Russian hookers?

I won't be a naive parent when it comes to video games because I'm a gamer myself, so I'll know what M rated games are fine for a young kid to play. I'll probably let my kid play games similar to Halo/CoD (I won't let them use the mic until they're at least 14) but I won't let them play games like Assassin's Creed, Gears. God of War until they're of the legal age (or at least until they're 15 since their friends would pressure them into playing those games). Otherwise, I know my child will be wise in balancing studies, sports, socializing and gaming so I don't need to worry about that :P

Why this rule?

Isn't it obvious? Don't you know the kind of language those tween punks are using when they voicechat?

Because I don't want creepy old dudes blasting inappropriate words at my kid (I see it all the time in CoD) and I don't want my kids squeaky voice annoying the creepy old dudes :P

Well, first things first, I wouldn't spoil them rotten. If they want to buy something they will not get pocket money, they will ask me and I will buy it for them if I feel they have earned it.

When it comes to age ratings, I wouldn't really care. Even at the age when they are just able to pick up a controller I will let them play almost any game they want to. At a very young age I might keep games like Grand Theft Auto off limits, I honestly believe that violent video games really don't have that much of an effect on children, it's all down to parenting and letting them understand it is just entertainment.

I will also let them game as much as they want if it's their hobby, but homework and real life issues come first. I will not let them play games until they get these things sorted.

Basically, I will raise my children in the same way I was raised. Playing games like Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid were a great experience when I was a child, I had such a great imagination then and I found those games much more thrilling then than now. Playing these types of games didn't make me a violent person and if anything they helped me mature faster. I never had a "thirst" for violence either, it was the game I cared about, not the gore. I would always put down Resident Evil to play a bit of Sonic.

Considering the dubious political situation over there, you may not be leaving...
