Before Trophys I really played my games a lot, but cared more about the story than anything else.
Now with the trophys in place I see myself playing even more and doing lot more gameplay wise and enjoying every/more aspect(s) of the game.

BUT

I NEVER buy games based on how easy it is to get them
But I read them after my first playthrough, and then go back to them to get them :) not everytime but often

To me it's quite irrelevant.

I want to say something between very important, and important. I do base my gaming on trophies/achievements, but not drastically.

For example, if there is a game I really love to play, I will replay it again to get all, or as much of the achievements/trophies as I can. If the awards are easy enough, I will even complete/platinum a game.

So games like Fallout and Oblivion, where you get almost every award by completing side missions and DLC, I will do. Something like Uncharted I will collect all the collectables, and beat it on Crushing. Same with Gears of War and Halo, except I'll also work on the multiplayer achievements too. Awards also bring me back to rewarding games like Splinter Cell: Conviction. Despite the age, you really want to complete the title.

However I won't play an RPG twice to get all the awards, once you beat the game you don't really want to put in another 50 hours, at least not anytime soon. So for these games I just get as much as I can as I go along. There are exceptions, I beat Mass Effect 2 twice because DLC justified a second play through.

However I won't pick and choose which games to play based on awards. I may play a PS3 game with trophies over one without them, but generally I play whatever game I like at the time.

In the end, awards are a nice competitive addition to games. I hope Nintendo adds them to Wii U, and maybe gives you Wii points to buy games with them. That would be nice, getting rewarded for playing games.

in an ideal world that would be cool, but people would boost and find anyways to cheat to get awards if they got wii points for them.

im also glad nintendo will not do this and i hope it is not on the wii. it seems that achievements are more catered toward the "core" and i like the nintendo that stays away from traditional "core" mechanics. i would rather completing a game unlock things like a hidden scene, special easter egg, or a simple letter sent to your wii with a picture in it or something haha

I base my game purchase in trophies... no trophies = no buy for me.

There are just few exceptions (games I brought without trophies).

Does it ever bug you that some great old PS3 titles have no trophies? e.g. MGS4? Valkeria Chronicles? etc

Well, maybe you could limit award to be game specific. I.e. Get 1,000 points on a Nintendo published game, get $1 off a Nintendo branded Virtual console game? Or maybe, complete Metroid Prime, get some $$$ off Metroid Themed Virtual Console games/themes/Bonus's.

That way if people boost off a crappy game, they only get prizes for other crappy games.

This would be nice because you would basically get a free Virtual console game every couple years. It's a nice bonus, and not all VC games have to be applicable.

I also agree with your last statement. In Metroid Prime, your completion level unlocks in game awards. I just wished they made those awards visible for people in other games. Without Awards of some sort, a lot of the more core Nintendo experiences, don't get that added bonus. After all, Nintendo is trying to appeal to the hardcore audience too now. Maybe they could spice it up in their own unique way.

These two are exceptions... but if they have a trophies patch I will  replay again.

At one time, I was very concerned about them. Now, I still try to get them but I don't really care as much.

They are pretty importent to me....I tend not to care about games as much if they don't have achievements in them.

not really important. I never realise they are there while i'm playing a game. I usually play a game and i get a trophy out of pure random

Honestly yeah they are a big deal to me now days. I'm pretty hooked on them but not to the point where I game JUST for achieves / trophies but they do influence my purchase. Its honestly one of the reasons I still don't have a 3DS and why I'm still thinking I might not get a Wii U. If Nintendo never embraces a similar system I'll probably never buy a Nintendo console ever again.

But that sounds worse than I mean it. Its just now days they've become such a common feature it feels lazy to not implement them. I mean even stuff like Steam and Games for Windows on the PC have achieves so for Nintendo to just blatantly ignore that kind of bothers me. Imagine Smash Bros and Zelda with achievements = awesome.

So pretty much yeah I love Achievements / Trophies cause they extend my gameplay experience, encourage me to try things in games I never would have thought to do the first time, and allow me to track my friends and see what they are playing and how much they've spent with a game.

I couldn't agree more about Nintendo not including them. I think they do add more playability to games and enjoyability. I am disapointed that they have not added a system like this to their gaming devices. Do you think they have any effect on sales? or no effect?

here is an example of why i would NOT want achievements in nintendo games.

in the ps3/360 games you collect say 100 randomly found items in the game and you get an ACHIEVEMENT or TROPHY.

in a nintnedo game you collect say 100 randomly found items in the game and you UNLOCK something in teh game like a new armor, infinite money, replay the game as luigi, ect.

You unlock in game armor and stuff in PS3 / 360 games as well as gain an achievement so your point there isn't valid.
