Forums - Gaming - Anyone picking up Shadows of the Damned tomorrow or soon?

I'm about halfway through, and I'd say Khuutra's pretty much right. Gameplay wise it's essentially Resident Evil 4 with tighter controls, nothing really new or special there. It's certainly no Vanquish. The story, the attitude, and the humor are all right up my alley, though. The whole game is such a relentless barrage of dick jokes, I'm kinda shocked the protagonist isn't named Garcia Hotsperm. But as puerile as it is, it works, maybe just because I'm pretty puerile myself but I'd like to think it's because of the heartfelt sincerity of it all. There's nothing ironic about it, and thank Suda for that. If there's a criticism I can level at it, it's that I'm playing on hard and it's super easy. The enemies are a breeze even at this difficulty, while the bosses all have convenient glowing red weak points that tell you just where to shoot them. But to the game's credit, I don't give one shit. It's fucking fun.

I'm picking this up when it releases on Friday in the UK. Looks like a reasonable game, plus I like to put my money towards new IPs instead of just buy another sequel. We have far too many damn sequels - yes I'm looking at you Call of Duty!

It sounds like a solid 8.0...is it too linear?...or are there many areas you can explore, like those big areas in Resident Evil 4?

8.0 on Metacritic so far.

Gamespot gives it 8.5.

IGN gives it a 7.0

It's pretty much entirely linear so far. There are gems that are hidden off to the side, and some you could miss if you take the wrong path or don't backtrack, but that's about it. But too linear? I don't really think so. It works for me, at least. The world is so crazy and awesome, I don't feel like I'm just shuffling down a series of corridors (*cough*Final Fantasy XIII*cough*).
