Yes, just based on the PS2's ability to keep selling. I do think however Sony will be making strides to make PS4 more developer friendly, the main aspect of this being easy to convert games from one platform to another. They have some a similar process with Vita, claiming that any PS3 title can be converted in a matter of weeks. Maybe they'll make the PS3/Vita and 4 as interchangeable.

I certainly think so. The PS3's lineup and sales are getting better every year, so it's easy to believe that it's only halfway through its lifespan. The PS4 probably won't release until 2014, and the PS3 can easily last for another two years after that.

I think it will keep selling HW and releasing games for it for 10 years from original launch date. I'm assuming they won't launch PS4 until they can get PS3 down to $150 and still sell at a profit. That will mean a decent price differentiation between the old and new consoles giving PS3 a post-PS4 niche for all those MEAA recent PS2 buyers to move into. That's assuming PS4 launches at about $399. I think end of 2013 will see a $150 PS3 and PS4 launch.

That's pretty silly since the PS1 kept selling even though the PS2, Gamecube and Xbox were around and the PS2 keeps selling until this day even though the Xbox 360 was released in 2005 and PS3 and Wii in 2006... the new consoles shouldn't stop PS3 sales just like they didn't stop PS1 and PS2 from selling.

I'm surprised they still think so publicly... But I think I agree. Unless it dies really fast, I don't see how it could last any less than ten years. Besides, I don't think Sony wants to kill it any time soon either, considering all the losses they took during the console's first few years.
