Forums - Nintendo - Future Wii games?

Preamble - Next Wii releases: Old or New?

Lately there's been people concerned with Wii releases, myself included.  We've had a pretty barren year so far, and it's a bit sad to see the Wii go off this way. We are entering its last year, with the succesor looming in for the next, some were hoping for some announcements to come from E3. I was surprised Nintendo made no new announcements during the conference; only showing Skyward Sword because of the 25th anniversary (afterwards we learnt of other games like the awesome Go Vacation). SEGA was also surprised with Nintendo's focus at E3, mentioning they have still some Wii games left in development.

What games has the Wii got to look forward to? There are various plausible sources for future software. One of them is localization, each region has different software that hasn't been released yet; Japan is publishing Just Dance 2/GoldenEye, here in Europe we're getting RPG's like Xenoblade/The last story and America gets Forture Street/Mario Party 9. There are plenty more missing like Fatal Frame 4, Another Code R, Trauma Team :(, etc. Another helpful hand to the Wii could come from it's new handheld brother. The cost of developing Wii or 3DS games are similar, and there's been some announcements made that embarks both platforms, like for example Rodea the Sky Soldier Flying. A similar situation might occur with the Wii U. It's 99% compatible with Wii software, in both hardware and controls. There'd be some games that would make better sense to be developed with a Wii's budget, for those cases there is still the option.

This is currently happening to the DS. For example there's been Pokemon Black/White sold with many 3DS, new users experiencing DSiWare, localization of Specter's Flute or the arrival of Kirby Mass Attack, to name some. What do you think will happen to the Wii?

On the American side I am preparing for the worst in regards to future support for the console, to be honest.

NoA has yet to announce a single localization that is not a puzzle or party game, while NCL continues to go as far as fixing Epic Mickey's camera and other issues in preparation for a Japanese release...

Besides Skyward Sword all we know about for sure is Kirby and Rhythm Heaven, which were revealed back in March.
I imagine there will be a Pokemon game for Wii released some time in the next year (it was also spoken about in March) as well as Dragon Quest X releasing eventually..

Other than that I wouldn't be surprised to see no more support from them, not even localizing games that will be available in English like Disaster, Another Code, Xenoblade, NPC Pikmin Freaking Two, and so forth.

Hopefully for European gamers NoE comes through, as they have in the past, with a release of The Last Story and perhaps also Excitebots and Trauma Team.

As far as third party releases go, I imagine they will continue at least until the end of next year, but I can't guarantee anything about the quality of the games they come up with. For example, Earth Seeker was a promising-looking game several sources suggested would see American release, but with the recent low score from Famitsu those plans may change...

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

Wow, Japan has it good, I didn't know they were fixing Epic Mickey... will we get the fix also? Why can't they do the same with Fatal Frame? And have no clue why localization takes a whole year (or more) to do, and that's only if they think there is a market for the game.

The fix will probably never see the light of day outside Japan if you ask me. Regarding everything else, I guess the answer is simple laziness from NoA/NoE.
NCL are releasing Epic Mickey, Golden Eye and Just Dance 2 all this summer so I doubt it took them more than six months to get the localizations done.

It's quite strange that NCL do so much more work than either NoE or NoA, despite bringing in the least amount of income of the three. I guess you could attribute it to arrogance on the part of NoA and NoE (especially NoA).

It isn't strange. NCL gets its ass kicked on the sales charts. Nintendo only realizes that there is a problem when it's already too late.

I agree, that's why I called it arrogance. Perhaps I should have said that about Nintendo as a whole though.

Also this is a good place to mention the few promising-looking Wii games we do know about that are planned for a release in the west:

Rayman Origins
Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny
MotoHeroz (WiiWare)

...is there anything else I'm missing?

All those look good, good thing that MotoHeroz releases this month. Took your idea for a list and put one in the OP
There's LaMulana for WiiWare, and Wii Play Motion is out this month

Forum dwellers: Are there more?

It's a shame, because Nintendo could have made the Wii sales unstoppable in terms of longevity if they would just follow through and release more games, more specifically the type of games that appeals to the Mario Kart, NSMB, Wii Sports, Wii Fit audience. But they'd rather burn all future potential for this console and start from scratch.. Litterally the only Wii games I want going forward are Zelda, Kirby Wii, and Dragon Quest, and the latter could very well have been moved to Wii U.

All the other games I wanted appears they will never reach these shores.. Zangeki, Tales of Graces, Last Story, Xenoblade... But yet they bring over Fragile and Sin and Punishment 2.. Makes a lot of sense :/

There's one last Wii game that I'm purchasing and that's The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
