Forums - Sales - No price cuts announced for PS3 or 360. Anyone else surprised?

It seems like it has been years since either of these consoles have had price cuts.  The last price cut for the 360 was in early fall of 2008 and the PS3 early fall of 2009!  The rumors were there, the analysts predictions of price cuts were there, yet nothing was announced at E3 for either 360 or PS3 to cut prices.

Is anyone else surprised by this?

Also, I still feel that there will be price cuts this year closer to the holidays.  Perhaps Sony and Microsoft didn't want to hurt sales by announcing a price cut that wouldn't take affect for 3 more months yet?

What do you guys think?  Will we still see price cuts this year, and if so, what will the new prices be, what time frame will the drops occur, and will there be new models that feature new things such as bigger hard drives or slimmer designs?

September! Will have a better impact for both. 4 solid months of game releases + price cut + christmas = big sales.

Too early. If announced before the fall it would kill sales till then much as the PS3 did horrible in August 09 because of the slims launch in September 09.

Not really surprised. I figured they'd want to wait until closer to the holidays. Or closer to the Wii U launch.

They wouldn't announce price cut until around 2-3 weeks before. Sometimes price cuts are announced even less than 1 week before. I have never seen price cut announcement months before actual cut (just rumours) and that would extremely stupid thing to do. Their sales are not so bad yet so they can easily wait until near holidays when price cut is most effective. It would be desperate to do price cut at this time.

I guess it's one of those things were no company wants to make price cuts. They know the others will follow if they do which would negate the increase in sales but lower revenue. Maybe it's too early for the price wars.

Yes and no.

I was thinking we'd see them announce price reductions, but it also makes sense to hold it off until just before the holidays.

It will happen by then.

There is 0% chance of MSony going through 2011 without a reduction.

This I agree with.  I think I just got my expectations up irrationally after some analysts were predicting it and after the leak of the Target deal.

Yeah, September does seem to be the best moment to cut the price. But if both cut the price at the same time, i wonder how sales are gonna be! :D

I'm a bit surprised but keep the current price is a smart decision for both Sony and MS since sales very good this year and they need to earn as much money as possible to pay for the research and development of the next generation.
