Forums - Nintendo - 3DS "doomed" planning thread

With things like the Iphones becoming better gaming devices, you shouldn't want to doom the 3DS. If Nintendo wins, they can continue to differentiate their platform for years to come. Sony will fizzle out as time goes by. Sony's victory means doom for the console gaming market....

3DS is far from doomed...in the end, I think it´ll sell very well, but on the other hand, I gotta laugh at some people who thought (or maybe still think) the system would go for around 200 million units, far surpassing the mighty DS...it´ll probably never come near 150 million sold, let alone surpass that.

But like I said, very far from doomed once a price cut and major games start coming.

first Luigi's mansion is not coming this year neither is smash bros as it has no started development yet as Sakuri has said.

if those are good games? well i can only answer about OoT and Star Fox as i have played those games.
the others will most likely be good as those are important franchises that Nintendo will handle with care and when Nintendo does that games end up good.

as for sales? yes it will sell millions at the price it is at with those games coming even if Vita is at the same price. people who mostly care about games buy a system that has the games that they want and not what the device can do. but of course there will be more competition this time around not like the previous generation

It doesn't matter how well the 3DS does this holiday. We can still say it's doomed. All it has to do is fail to reach one goal. Outsells the DS? It's doomed because it didn't outsell the iPod. Outsell the iPod? It's doomed because its biggest game didn't outsell Angry Birds. We've got this whole "doom' thing down to a science!! I'm just waiting for the green light to call the Wii U doomed. I want to give it at least a couple more days--or do you think I'm being too generous?

In terms of revenue many games outsell Angry Birds. Hell pretty much any title that reaches 1.5-2.5 (Depending on the price) million pretty much outsells angry bird in revenue.

Yeah, I got AB, AB Seasons, and AB Rio and I spent $0.00 on them.  Hasn't stoppped people from saying it's going to bbe "The biggest selling game of all time".

also with resident evil mercenaries 3d,resident evil revelations coming out this year. and tekken 3ds and i would imagine a 3ds version of sc5 as well , shown off at tgs with releases next year. the 3ds software drought is going to be over starting june 19 ( ocarina of time 3d ). and system sales will go up big time :)

3DS is certainly not doomed, unless proclaiming that means gauging it's success against its predecessor, which it's highly unlikely to match in sales.

But with all of the games coming this holiday (Mario Kart being the biggest potential system seller), there still remains one culprit to its stagnant sales: The price.

If Nintendo were to lose money on each unit sold by reducing the price, I could understand the concern; that's not how they do business. However reports indicate that it costs Nintendo approximately $100 to make the 3DS; there is absolutely no reason why they can't sell it for $199. They would still be making plenty of profit and selling far more systems. Despite what Reggie has reiterated, I truly hope that when the PSV launches, the 3DS' price comes down for the holidays... even a mere $20 reduction would be something.

"THE 3DS' PRICE IS TOO DAMN HIGH!"

The biggest factor holding the 3DS back isn't so much the lack of games, but the price plus the lack of games... yes once more games and more specifically big first party titles like the ones listed in the OP are released sales will go up but they will not explode whilst the price of a 3DS is $200+. If in the wake of the PSVs launch Nintendo do not cut the price to a maximum of $200 then all of the momentum those games would give the 3DS will be largely, but not completely, over-ridden. Atleast that depends of the price of the PSV and whether it is actually $250/300 or $250/300 plus the price of a contract fee.
