Forums - Nintendo - Wii U won't render Wii games in HD

http://www.gamerzines.com/wii/news/wii-u-hd-will-not-upscale-wii.html

Too bad, the Dolphin Wii emulator for PC can do it and I like the way Ninja Gaiden Black looks up-rendered on my 360...

I can see a valid reason not to do it, that it might have compatibility problems with some games. But it would be cool even if it only worked on certain games, like the biggest ones with great graphics such as Super Mario Galaxy...

Nowhere near important

It would be a cool feature, that's all. Backwards compatibility is important, and this would improve it.

It might even be another reason for Wii owners to upgrade...

I have no problem with that.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

eh, i would have liked it, but i've lived with Wii games blown up on my HDTVs already, so w/e

EDIT: This also means Pachter was completely wrong: Nintendo's next console can't even render Wii games in HD :P

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I wonder why. If an emulator can do it, why can't Nintendo do it?
They'd look better on any HDTV, and existing owners are a very important userbase for the U's success.

This isn't a must have feature no but the fact that they clearly haven't tried shrugging it off as "impossible" even (paraphrasing), is frankly a disappointment it would be a nice little feature and a sort of goodwill gesture in a "Already have some Wii games, well they will look and play better on the Wiiu" kind of way. In other words the more features and abilities the console has the more incentive there is to get it or "Little things add up".

they could do it ... but then they couldn't sell you the HD re-release.

Here's hoping that this is not the way they turn...

I would have bought it for that reason alone.

I might buy it for other reasons though.
