also, guys...get Growlanser IV! Came out a few weeks back, and it's VERY good. |
I've been thinking about getting Growlanser, do I need to play the other games in the series to understand the storyline?
I don't think so, no. I'd never played a Growlanser game and I'm having no problem following it. it's as any JRPG should be though, long and very story driven.
You should've at least played Generations.
I didn't have much of a choice in the matter, it was "hey, we have a code for Growlanser IV, anyone want it?" and nobody else did, so I took it.
Random question Runa, but why didn't anyone one wanna atleast try it? Or would they rather just play their safe bets instead?
Growlanser is super niche and obscure, so those who may know about it (Tor) probably didn't want to take it as it would easily eat 50 hours.
Tor was going to take it, but he has two OTHER massive JRPG's to do this month (if I recall correctly, I may not), and he really didn't have time. Why nobody else wanted to take it, I really don't know. Far as I can tell, we don't have a lot of JRPG players on the team. Hell, I'm not that into JRPG's, but here I am, having done disgaea 3 and now Growlanser.
I'm not a JRPG guy, but I do like good ones. I didn't like Gungnir at all, though, WAYY too much talking, not nearly enough actual gameplay. There's a lot of talking in growlanser, but there's a LOT of gameplay, too, and it;s a nice balance.
I do feel bad, though, as my gaming schedule really doesn't allow for lengthy games like this becuase I usualyl only play for an hour or two a day, tops...I'm only like 10 hours into the game and I still have a lot left. I'm on mission 10 of 46, if the one FAQ I glanced at is correct. I really gotta step it up. Great game, though.
