Forums - Nintendo - WiiU not compatible with non-MotionPlus Wii remotes?

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-06-08-will-wii-u-support-original-wiimote

Nintendo's Wii U console will not support original models of the Wii controller without a MotionPlus attachment, according to comments made by Shigeru Miyamoto.

Chatter in the latest edition of Iwata Asks, suggests either the 2009-released add-on or the 2010 Remote Plus all-in-one model will be required for Wii U play.

It's likely the extra precision is needed because the new console outputs in HD. And, while the new tablet-like device is the main controller, the Wiimote still has a major role to play.

Miyamoto explained: "The other thing was we wanted to make the switch to HD. Right now I'm planning that people can still be able to use their Wii Remote controllers that they already have, which means this time you now have five controllers to play with [including the Wii U controller]".

Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata clarified these remarks, adding: "You mean this new controller, and four Wii Remote Plus controllers for a total of five."

"Right," replied Shigsy. "Five controllers. And we have people play in many combinations. I feel like the Wii Remote has pretty much become its ideal form with the Wii Remote Plus".

I really hope the original Wiimote isn't supported for WiiU games. It would be a step backwards if developers still had to support the motion sensing in that model, while taking advantage of the new technology!

Wii Remote Plus and Wii Remotes with Motion Plus only please!

EDIT: Damn, I guess I made the title more sensational then intended. It's only WiiU games it won't be supported for, it will still be backwards compatible of course.

if they mean I can't even use a wiimote with motion plus attached then there is even less of a reason to get Wii U as I'd have to buy all new controllers anyway...
I wouldn't mind all this stuff if there was actually any support left for their current home console... as it is I'm kinda left in the dust...

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

Interesting, could be a way to force people to upgrade to motion plus, but you need software Nintendo! Either way, they said otherwise in the specs everyone is showing: "Up to four Wii Remote (or Wii Remote Plus) controllers can be connected at once"

@gumby: wiimote+motion plus is a wiimote plus; the Wii doesn't notice the difference, WiiU wont either. It would only tell you to connect your motion plus if you are using a standard remotel.

I agree, I'm just cranky for getting nothing new for Wii

(plus this contradicts information on Nintendo's e3 site where it says WiiU accepts all wiimotes...)

If NOA tries to pull a stunt like bringing over some of the Wii games as WiiU only (like NPC Pikmin 2 or Zangeki no Reginliev) I will break something...

I see :P I felt much better after sleeping, and I'm looking forward to Go Vacation (lol, and it seems it is only me!)

Like I said in the other thread, it would be best if the upgrade wasn't forced to the consumer but who willingly buy it. So they need motion plus software for the Wii U. Zangeki no Reginliev could be one, but Pikmin 2 isn't m+... both are more suitable for Wii if they are ever released

kind of gay. i do have a motion plus and will for sure now get teh zelda collectors controller

but had four wiimotes and would be nice if they could still be used for these family games taht i assume would still come out. oh well, getting a motionplus adaptar is still cheaper than buying new controlers for a new system

i'll be looking for more deals on the flingsmash bundle. I want to have 4 good motion plus controllers for the Wii U when it comes out. I'm really glad that i won't have to buy all new Wii motes.

right now i only have 2 wiimotes that are motion plus.  But I want to get 4.  I've been seeing the flingsmash bundle on sale for $20, so I will be picking up a couple so I can get 4 Wiimotes.  Better now than later when they are $50 again.
