Im seeing posts on other sites that its not multi touch, if not then thats a terrible terrible mistake in this day and age, but Nintendo are about using cheaper components to make affordable products, but for me that would be too much IF its true. I suppose theres plenty of time for the spec to shift and im sure it will somewhat.
I was a bit "wtf" when they show the WiiU controller at first, but I believe this console's gonna be great!
don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

I don't think you can aim well while holding the controller with two hands. The Wiimote is the perfect shape for pointing. |
Watch this video:

If you look at the controller carefully when they show the back, you can see a dark translucent rectangle on the top of the controller. I'll almost guarantee that's an IR camera for use with the Sensor Bar, which we know for a fact the system will use.

According to the video, also, it looks like there WILL be only one screentroller per system. I'm not quite certain how I feel about that yet, but that's what it looks like.
Note two things:
(1) There aren't any examples of multiples being used whatsoever in the video.
(2) There's only one light on the controller - no indicator for multiple players.
This could change, but right now, while it seems disappointing gaming-wise, it seems beneficial for my wallet.

So other players would always use Wiimotes or classic controllers?
If true, that would cut off a large amount of possibilities from what the controller could do. Local multiplayer seems like the most convincing way to begin to justify this controller...

Yeah, I really like the idea and hope they DO implement it. Right now, there's no evidence to say they're going to support more, but that doesn't mean they won't.
Until there's blatant evidence to show they are (IE, they announce it, or a game is revealed to demonstrate such abilities), I'm going to assume there will be only one.

I could be wrong but I suspect that this concept was born out of experimentation with DS-Wii connectivity ...
I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo had dozens of ideas for games, and for interactions within games they were already developing, and ignored these because they were unconvinced that people would use the systems together; or because some technical limitation between the two platforms made it (nearly) impossible to create their vision.
On the topic of multiple tablet-controllers per console, with Nintendo's track record on support for local multiplayer I would expect that the system could support at least 2 and probably 4 tablet controllers at the same time. With that said, I suspect that the more tablet controllers are connected the less Nintendo would display to screen; and with 4 or more tablets it would probably only be a simple menu or map displayed to this screen.
If they do a multiple screentroller setup, one thing to remember is that, to support extra controllers, it takes extra RAM and extra CPU (mostly CPU) - it most likely has ZERO drain on the GPU because the controllers will likely have their own built-in GPU to do that work. That's a lot less strenuous for the system, and it evens the load a ton. If there's going to be only one controller EVER supported, then that probably won't be the case - it'll probably strictly be an image transmitted wirelessly, no computing at all in the controller.
RAM and CPU power are the cheaper of the three to upgrade. Additionally, the rumored specs show the system having a multicore processor and a lot of very high-speed RAM. With a multicore processor, supporting the extra screens is very easy. There can be one core specifically dedicated towards processing the data to send to the controllers, then the controllers process that data graphically. That spreads out the burden drastically, and makes it REALLY easy to support extra controllers without sacrificing performance.

- A said earlier, full blow from ninty against all competitors. They must have been thinking about this since the GBA (remember Four swords, even the Jaguar back in the time had a controller designed with additional buttons in mind)
- Backward compatibility is very important, even if there will be even few wii games developped now
- Multiple controller backward connectivity :insta-trademark: (NGC, Classic controller, wiimote, board...)
- Does that mean Virtual console, Wiiware will continue ?
- Somehow, I still remember when the wii was first presented everybody was raving about the perfect Jedi game... that never came in. Everything you are all imagining now about the applications may never happen because of developper laziness....
- Games on Wii U, because of the HD factor, will be a risk for developpers from now on ^^
