As far as Huckabee goes I support him if only for the FairTax.

Iowa will be a close race, but I think that Huckabee will win it by at least 4 points. I do not know if I want Huckabee as the President because of some things he has said. But as far as my support goes it follows these issues, in this order:

1. National Security
2. FairTax
3. Culture Reform

I believe that Huckabee has the last 2 down very well... but the National Security issue is very important to ALL of America. I believe that America can't lose the War on Islamic Fascism unless we get defeated from within. A house divided against itself will not long stand.

My preferred ticket would be Thompson/Huckabee. Then would come Huckabee/Hunter. I would even like to see Paul appointed as VP or as special counsel to cut the federal government down to a manageable size once again.

I want my WHOLE paycheck! I support the Fair Tax!

Regardless of who wins or loses, this will the year people look back on as the turning point of the way primary elections are done.

States are wanting more and more say in the elections, and have been moving their primaries up. This showed a fundamental unhappiness with the way the primaries are currently done.

Guliani is banking on this being the time when things need to change for the primaries. If he's right, the "first states" will no longer matter. It will be the largest states that matter. If he's wrong, the "I'm first" states will continue to battle moving the next primary up further and further until the American people finally say "that's enough" and propose a different system.

Personally, I think we ought to do away with individual state primaries and just have one general primary. The candidates will have to choose how to spend their limited funds to get the most bang for their buck. I would like to suggest that it would encourage fiscal responsibility, but this is politics and I know better.

Richardson is instructing his suporters to go for Obama if they're not viable. Together with the poll damkira posted, and he may have this in the bag.

Welcome to Monarchy.

He is quite warlike so I think he would choose the title of Emperor... if he could pronounce it that is.

We know next to nothing about the US don't we.

You can't take a joke either... or use the edit button.

I won't bother replying to any reply you make as I have no intention to start a flamewar over a silly joke. Sorry if I hurt your feelings.

Kucinich did too.. while his following is small, they seem to be pretty dedicated. This is definitely going to be exciting to watch.

Dear God, If Huckabee wins the election I am moving to Canada.

Don't underestimate hickabee. Remember that bush ran as an science-hating, aww sucks, "compassionate conservative" in 2000 and it worked for him. He seems to be trending very well in the republican primary and is actually leading at the moment. If they're smart they'll nominate McCain but he just doesn't appeal to their base like hickabee does. The good news is that you'll have option. Michael Bloomberg is expected to announce his candidacy in February and I'm all but certain Ron Paul will run as a Libertarian.

Bush never ran as a science hater and has supported the sciences like every president. I'm quickly remembering why I ignore political threads by average people.

Conservative Christianity and science don't mix, his ban on stem cell research and his ignoring global warming in particular piss me off on the scientific front.

Evolution doesn't really effect anything and is merely argued on a scientific level, it doesn't actually mean life or death like the other two.

Oh and also I think you are wrong about the place we are in history. We are in a place where there is a European resurgence through the EU a decline in America a timebomb in the middle east and a huge rise in the Asian region. Russia is merely being more assertive and will not become a superpower through that alone, Africa and South America are simply too poor to become major powers - especially Africa. The Middle East is just a timebomb, I expect it to fall to complete and utter ruin as soon as the oil runs out because the rest of the world will suddenly and amazingly stop caring.

Sucking up to the Europeans is indeed probably a good idea as they are your closest relatives so to speak and if the European Union becomes more unified and more states join it then they are looking to be an extremely powerful force, economically in particular. Also China is a state to be wary of because as a dictatorship they are very unpredictable.

read the posts (bush will declare himself dictator, hickabee, huckabee is a right wing nut etc.. goes on and on) and i am glad you have been paying so close attention to what i have been doing, very creepy!

I did not make the claim that bush will declare himself dictator, however he did say in 1998 that a dictatorship would be "a heck of a lot easier" for him. I don't think he will declare himself dictator, but cannot fault people too much for thinking he will.

Yes, huckabee is a right-wing nut. This is a man clearly out of touch with reality. He fired a gun over reporters heads, proposes a national sales tax while offering loopholes at the same time, thinks wives should "graciously submit to their husbands," pardons dangerous criminals because he thinks they've become born again and lied about having a theological degree. That is what I would call a right-wing nut.

Of course, I haven't forgotten your racist, homophobic meltdown. It was only a few months ago.

The bolded comments have nothing to do with being conservative. THe "graciously submit to your husbands" thing is a Baptist thing, and often misunderstood by nonBaptists.

As for Bush and the "dictator" comments, you need to check the context. It is a point that any leader in his position would concede - that things are EASIER for a dictator, not that the country would be better off having a dictator. The only reason people believe that this statement is part of some master plan is because of those who hate Bush so much that they are looking for any opportunity to reinforce their Hitlereque image of him. Given how quickly such an idea collapses under even minute scrutiny, they can absolutely be faulted for holding those beliefs (note I say this not as a defense of Bush but a defense of reason - it is as absurd an overreach by critics as the ones who want to paint  the Clintons as murdering criminal masterminds).

What a shame then that his term expires in January 2009 regardless.

Really, where do you people think Bush gets this sort of power from? His critics speak freely (and a great many of them thrive), his party lost lost it's hold of Congress (and that was tenuous to begin with), he failed to slip radioactive isotopes in the food of the liberal SC justices to ensure a conservative majority (current it's 4:4 with 1 swing vote), and he couldn't even rig an election to give him a sweeping victory (really, what sort of genius would rig the 2000 election to come down to a few hundred votes in 1 county in Florida???), ad with just1 year left to go has yet to begin the process needed to overturn the 22nd Ammendment.

@misterd

No, not all right-wingers feel this way.. but I still believe Huckabee is a right-wing zealot.

The "graceful submission" criticism of Huckabee is warranted, in my opinion, because he was one of the signers of the ad which appeared in USA today which says this. Not only that, but the part he signed states ...

“You are right because you called wives to graciously submit to their husband’s sacrificial leadership.”

He also served as head of this organization at the state level. I don't see how this has been taken out of context.. Huckabee and the Southern Baptist Convention are, of course, free to believe/say whatever they want -- but I think this position is far removed from mainstream modern thought. I believe husbands and wives are equal partners and most people in the US and Europe would agree with me. Clearly, Huckabee does not.

Again, I did not claim Bush is a dictator. I do not believe he will stage a coup in order to maintain power in 2009.
