Don't underestimate hickabee. Remember that bush ran as an science-hating, aww sucks, "compassionate conservative" in 2000 and it worked for him. He seems to be trending very well in the republican primary and is actually leading at the moment. If they're smart they'll nominate McCain but he just doesn't appeal to their base like hickabee does. The good news is that you'll have option. Michael Bloomberg is expected to announce his candidacy in February and I'm all but certain Ron Paul will run as a Libertarian.

 


Bush never ran as a science hater and has supported the sciences like every president. I'm quickly remembering why I ignore political threads by average people.


 Conservative Christianity and science don't mix, his ban on stem cell research and his ignoring global warming in particular piss me off on the scientific front. 

Evolution doesn't really effect anything and is merely argued on a scientific level, it doesn't actually mean life or death like the other two.

 

Oh and also I think you are wrong about the place we are in history. We are in a place where there is a European resurgence through the EU a decline in America a timebomb in the middle east and a huge rise in the Asian region. Russia is merely being more assertive and will not become a superpower through that alone, Africa and South America are simply too poor to become major powers - especially Africa. The Middle East is just a timebomb, I expect it to fall to complete and utter ruin as soon as the oil runs out because the rest of the world will suddenly and amazingly stop caring.

Sucking up to the Europeans is indeed probably a good idea as they are your closest relatives so to speak and if the European Union becomes more unified and more states join it then they are looking to be an extremely powerful force, economically in particular. Also China is a state to be wary of because as a dictatorship they are very unpredictable.
