Suicidal is going a bit far... If they merely had a system similar to those that are already available then I'd be more disappointed than if they did nothing.
The current systems more often than not merely try and artificially extend playtime through a set of meaningless, time consuming tasks (I'm thinking of things like the pigeon hunt in GTA IV here) when full completion should be something that you want to do naturally because of good game design.
If they could come up with a system that encouraged such natural desire to do everything in a game without mind numbingly dull requirements, then they'd be on to a winner. And it'd be better than what there is out there already.
