Forums - Sales - Not a good indicator but...ps3 ranking on amazon since 3 weeks

Well, for 3 weeks, i've been browsing from time to time the amazon charts on the videogame section.

I'm surprised because i've seen that on

amazon.com (US)

amazon.co.uk (UK)

amzon.fr (France)

ps3 is in a significantly better position than 360. the last time it was so was after the price cut in july and ps3 moved up to the top spots of amazon.com.

Could it be any indication that ps3 is selling much better than before and on 360 levels in both UK and USA ?

Are there any american members that can share what they see in stores right now ?

I see people talking about amazon rankings all the time, which is fine and all, but what precentage of sales does amazon have, and what margin of error can we apply to their rankings? As far as I know amazon ususally has a problem being profitable ever, so I have a hard time taking their rankings for truth. I do however think the PS3 enjoyed an uptick from it's combined pricecut(s) and the holiday season, but I wonder how it will be in a few months during the dead times (except for nintendo anyways, mario kart and SSSB should be huge)

I KNOW it's not a trustworthy indicator, but up to now, 360 was always on a better position in amazon.com and amazon.co.uk. (until recently).

there is only 1 ps3 sku in uk and france. so its position will obviously higher than the 3 different sku's of the 360. you never know, they could be selling more 360's on amazon, but because of the divided sales, it wont show on their rankings.

not that it means anything anyway

Amazon occationally has good deals on certain systems or nice bonuses.  Their sales can fluctuate wildly for normal products, although they tend to sell the Wii as fast as they get it all of the time since it's sold out everywhere.

@doastin
i thought of that, but ps3 is ranked something like 5-7 and 360 i ranked like 20+. and i guess the 5 ranking sells at least 2x the amount of the 25th ranking item.
But what is strange is in the USA, where both SKU are well ahead of 360 SKUs...strange

Amazon is indeed not a good measure of sales, but expect threads shortly about 17 Wii's sold every second on Amazon...

When will people wise up and stop using Amazon as a sales indicator? The only thing less reliable than Amazon is Patcher.
