First-person shooter XCOM launches on 9th March 2012, 2K Games has announced.

It launches on 6th March in the US.

The game is no longer a PC and Xbox 360 exclusive. 2K Games today confirmed plans to launch a PlayStation 3 version.

"XCOM is a gripping tactical action experience set in mid-century America, where the player leads an elite field team of specialised government agents into battle - combining deep, visceral gunplay with powerful sci-fi abilities," reads the official blurb.

"Together, they face a vicious and otherworldly enemy, who conspires to shatter our world and rebuild it in their own image."

You play Special Agent William Carter and his team against the threat of human extinction. Guess XCOM is now a squad-based shooter, then.

You "strike surgically" against aliens, capture their technology and turn their weapons against them.

Cool trailer. I've been looking forward to X-COM, I like the work that 2K Marine does and I was waiting to get it on the 360, but I'll probably pick it up on the PS3 now, need to keep that collection going and I hate the green covers.

I've never played the original XCOM (I suck at strategy games), so I don't go all nerd rage over the new one and the FPS change. I've seen the E3 trailer and I think it looks spooky and interesting. I'm definitely going to keep an eye on it.

Looks interesting, a lot of people seem to be mad over the FPS change.

There area already tons of fps out there. It seems like they are just leeching on the XCOM name with... just another FPS.

another major game being made in Australia, hopefully it turns out good. But i understand despite not playing xcom that this is an case of abusing the name by slapping it on another game to grab attention to an new ip which would go unnoticed if named something else.

well that was fast...in one year it went from xbox pc game to xbox pc ps3...3rd party exclusivity is becoming extinct

not sure about this game tbh...need to see more

some 360 fans were hyping this game up to be triple AAA, but I think it'll drift off now and we'll lose our interest now it is multiplatform
the game itself looks good, it reminds me of the Conduit and Halo, which isn't a bad combination, hopefully it turns out good, I might get this game
