Forums - General - Wii won't burn off the fat.

Lies, all lies. Try playing one hour of Wii boxing against Matt.
The real problem is the methodology. It sucks. 15 minutes is not enough. Also they should not use golf or bowling, tennis and boxing is much better. The difference is like walking and running.

Well its the parents fault anyway if their children become obese so they shouldn't be looking for something else to prevent it.

Wii never meant to be burning lots of calories but to encourage moving while having fun... It's better than just moving thumbs, isn't it? Plus it's a good start for people who aren't active at all!

Speaking of losing weight, did you know Light products are VERY BAD for your health? I did research on that and they put stuff in sugar free chewing gum (xylitol, sorbitol) and light drinks (aspartame), which are like poison to the health and can cause easily cancer.
How healthy, losing weight. Better not to eat sugar at all than to use light products. Just as a warning.

Yeah, artificial sweeteners are very suspicious. They can also disrupt your body's natural sense of how many calories you've consumed, by un-linking the taste of sweet with the actual ingestion of sugar. Then there's the issue of formaldehyde accumulation.

My philosophy is that if you just stay active, you can eat pretty much whatever you want. :P

Lastly, the study provides absolutely no information regarding how the kids played the games. 60 calories on average per hour for playing one of the wii sports...but were the kids just standing using the minimum amount of movement required, or were they up and attempting to play the sports like you would in real life? I can play all the wii sports while sitting on a coach, and obviously I wouldn't expect that to make me loose weight, but I could also get totally into them and move around and pretend I'm actually playing them.

I spotted that flaw as soon as I read the first post. Only 51% more calories burned sounds like wrist movement compared to thumb movement. I can't immagine that the sport of bowling only burns about 50% more calories than thumb wrestling a controller.
