Forums - PC - Need some help with video output from Laptop PC

Hey guys,

I have two things here with me - an Acer Aspire laptop w/HDMI and VGA out on its geforce 420m and an Asus VE248H LED monitor, w/HDMI, VGA and DVI in. Now, the max resolution my latop can do is 1366x768, and the max re the monitor can do is 1920x1080, in other words, 1080p. When I connect my laptop to the monitor, I get instant picture - however, there seems to be no way to set it to 1080p. I highly doubt that my GPU can't output it (heck, even a 330 does that one easy), but in the nvidia control panel, I simply can't get beyond 1366x768. Any solutions?

Yes, everything as on laptop. Connected through HDMI, too.

I'll try it right now...

^^^Goddam, that guy is fast!!  I wanted to answer that one!

I'll just add: Try pressing the "FN" button along with "F5".  Choose the option for using monitor only.  I think that if you use the VGA cable to connect instead of the HDMI cable, you get different resolution settings, too.

Disabled laptop, set Asus screen as primary, and voila! 1080p sleekness. Thanks!

On my laptop, all that does is disable backlight, sadly!

Also lol @ VGC cable. I call it that sometimes too!

I think I typed VGC because I had VGChartz on the mind!  Anyway, I'm glad your problem got solved.  I'm using an Acer Aspire connected to my TV, too (somebody broke the monitor while I was at work back in mid-April). It's actually pretty awesome.  I'm not even sure I want to go back to the smaller monitor--not that I have a choice, right now.

Looks like my work here is done.  Once again, I've saved the day!

*edit*  Lol at trasharm's reply below!!
