Come on I play blu-ray on my ps3 all the time.

We will never know how many, if any, are bought primarily or solely as blu ray player.
Interests: Government, Sports, Accounting, Computers and Business
My brother won an 'award' from work which gave him the ability to buy anything for up to $500 on the company and he bought a PS3 as a Blu-Ray player; he has rented FEAR, bought Madden and was given NHL 2008 as a gift but those are the only games he has played on it.
Everyone I know who has bought a PS3 picked one up because of the Blu-Ray player; they have all (pretty much) stated that they would have bought an XBox 360 if they were only interested in a gaming machine. The fact is that if you're looking for a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD player and have some interest in gaming that the PS3 may be a good purchase simply because a $200 to $300 HD movie player and a $350 XBox 360 is far more expensive than a PS3.
The real risk for the PS3 long term is this rational purchase may not remain so rational for long ... The format war between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray has driven down the price of players faster than any format before, by January 1st 2009 there may be sub-$100 players on the market which would encourage people to buy seperate components.
Sorry, but it is "Blu-Ray", not "Blue-Ray" but yeah, it's going to help PS3 if it wins, but if it loses, the PS3 being a blu-ray player could actually hurt the system.
I use my PS3 as a blu ray player. But I think HD dvd will win, it's a more familiar system if you understand what I'm saying
I bought mine as a game player. I have 7 games now and 3 Blu Ray movies.
I have yet to see a Blu-ray movie played outside of Circuit City or Best Buy.

then you dont deal with PS3 owners. There is a reason why Blu-ray has been kicking the hell out of HD-DVD in software for the last year.
For example with PSN titles. I have about 35 games and 12 blu-ray movies.

I do love blu-ray, I own 62 now; however, that's not why I bought my ps3...I bought my ps3 for games. I barely knew what blu-ray was until I got my ps3 and HDTV.
And software isn't doing that bad on the ps3...most third party games like CoD4 & Assassin's Creed outsell the ps3 versions on the 360 around 3 to 1 in America--about the same ratio of 360 consoles over ps3's in America--makes sense. (Or in simpler terms, CoD4 should sell 3x more copies on the 360 because there are 3x more 360's than ps3's in America.)
Well, I now only have access to a PS3 & 360...Plan on buying a wii soon (lol, if I can ever find one available!) but will probably wait until some of the major RPG's come out like Dragon Quest & Tales, etc.
Anyhow, I'm so far behind in games to play that I'm not in a huge hurry (lol, haven't even gotten a chance to finish God of War II yet!)
Blu-ray = fail
HD-DVD = fail
DVD = epic win
That's final. Format wars are stupider than console wars. Don't buy any HD garbage.
