Forums - Gaming - minecraft on the xperia play first.

haven't seen this anywhere else, and think this is the right forum so here it is.

from engadget:
If you want to be the first in your hood to take Minecraft with you wherever you go, you'll have to pick up an Xperia Play. The block-building game where cubed avatars hide from creepers and create virtual CPUs will land on the so-called PlayStation Phone before coming to other Android devices and iOS later this year. The Play version will have customized controls that take advantage of the gamepad and button layout found on the Sony Ericsson handheld, though when exactly it will launch or how much it will cost is still unknown. It's also unclear how long the title will be exclusive to the gamer-centric smartphone, but developer Mojang will be holding an event at E3 where, presumably, we'll be getting more details. Now is the time to wrap up any loose ends in your life before what little free time you have left gets buried beneath a pile of bricks and mobs -- even when your PC isn't handy.

so I guess this is another thing to take up time at E3

I love a good civilised debate (but only if we can learn something).

How is a phone going to run that?!

My laptop struggles with it.

Either way this is awesome. I have been toying with a Minecraft styled game on my phone but it lacks much of what Minecraft offers, such as day/night cycles and monsters.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Interesting to see how comprehensive the gameplay is compared to the PC. If it is at all good, then that is pretty cool!

The draw distance will be about 3 feet in front of your face.

If your laptop struggles with Minecraft, you're due for a new laptop bud.

my laptop struggles to. it is 3 years old so yes I am due for a new laptop but I am sure it is still more capable than my phone. I am sure the code will be optimised though but even at that will it really be able to run it. I hope so.

at bolded, what games are they, are they on android market?

@Xen

My laptop still serves it's main purpose just fine, which is browse the net.

@9009pc

It is called Minebuilder.

Minecraft like game with not that many features yet.. I will update it with more features though ;)

Features:
-Import minecraft maps (unsupported blocks will be replaced by air)
-Destroy blocks
-Collect blocks in your inventory (and place them)
-Ability to use your own texture pack

Planned for version 1.6:
-Growable stuff (trees, crops etc)
-Day/Night system
-Mode chooser (creative/normal)
-Different control schemes

Feel free to email me if the game doesn't work on your phone. You may ofcourse also email me with feature requests.

Oh, and you should email me your worlds too (they're on your sd card). I will put the worlds that I like in the screenshots :)

And ofcourse special thanks to Nathan van der Meer for doing a lot of boring repetitive work!

Tested on:
HTC Legend
HTC Desire
HTC Desire HD
SE Xperia X8
Samsung Galaxy S

Recent changes:
1.5:
-added a crafting system
-destroying blocks now costs time
-newly generated worlds will start with a crafting table in your inventory. Don't worry about your old worlds: There will be a creative mode soon.
-Added some options to tweak the controls

1.5.1:
-made coal ore drop coal instead of coal ore (so you could use it now)

1.5.2:
-Made inventory scroll on small screens
-Fixed crafting table recipe
-Added an option to reset the crafting table in settings menu (for old/screwed up worlds)

Content rating: Everyone

Latest version: 1.5.2 (for Android version 2.1 and higher)
