Before the Wii I was just a former gamer, my last console was a SNES. This is why the Wii is so important to me and it's also why all those rumors about Project Cafe are making me sad. I mean, I don't want a new console with a dual analog controller and line-up filled with PS360 ports. What I want are more 2D Mario, more skyward sword/red steel 2 games and even more Wii Sports games.

Yeah, I'm totally with you there.

edit: If I may add to this post (instead of continually spamming the thread
) I'd also like to say I think it could have gone down very differently if Nintendo had packed-in Motion Plus with the console and remote to begin with. I know this was a cost saving measure, but we all know there would have been just as much demand for the system had they sold it for $300 initially. That would have probably more than offset the price of additional hardware, and could have had a positive effect on the amount of 'waggle-fest' games that came to the system. That alone would have given it less of a name as a 'gimmick'. Just imagine if the Wii launched with a game like Sports-Resort instead of the original (not that there was anything wrong with it) or better yet Red Steel 2 instead of the first one. People would have hailed it as a true revolution! Other early games like Zack & Wiki, Sky Crawlers, Dewy's Adventure and Crystal Bearers would also have been greatly improved, and hopefully the sales would have followed.
If you look back to the first unveiling of the revolution controller, it appears Nintendo were actually planning on including Motion Plus with the console(check the 1 minute mark on this video). It's quite a shame then that they ended up waiting to include it as it seems a short-sited move in retrospect. I guess they weren't completely confident in their own strategy during the period before launch, or they would have pushed it further. Granted the price of buying a second remote would have been considerably higher back in 2007 had they taken this route, but I'm sure they could have thought of plenty of ways to deal with this.
So the funny part is, when you look back it's actually Nintendo's conservative attitude that prevented them from gaining more developer support IMO. Just as people were crying about Halo 3 running in 640p or some other sub-HD resolution because supposedly the hardware wasn't ready for HD, it seems that Nintendo's hardware wasn't completely ready either.
Had they done that and also invested in some serious support for 'gamers' early on (such as funding a game or two from Factor 5 and Free Radical back when both of them still existed), we could have been singing a very different tune this generation.
Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!
