I Imagine it will definitely help sales....and I wouldn't doubt LBP2 will start doing better too.

Bad move.  The first time I played inFamous I hated it, found it sloppy and irritating and unprofessional.  I put it down in disgust and had no intention of ever picking it up again.  

a few months later I thought I'd give it another shot.  I pushed through the parts I hated and within an hour I was hooked.  That game kept me in its world for a week as I got through everything.  I wouldn't say it was one of my favorite games ever, or even this gen, but it was a great example of a game that focuses on GAMEPLAY first and foremost , with the presentation aspects being somewhat lacking.  Frankly, I'm okay with that. I recommend giving it another shot.

Its a smart move to make inFamous 1 free, i'm planning on getting it myself.

however i'm not 100% sure it will work out that well - maybe a small bump. but i'm guessing a lot of people who want inFamous 2 already have inFamous 1. most of the people who will get it like me, might not get the 2nd one or get the 2nd one later when it cheaper.

i think every PS3 gamer at the moment has a monumental backlog, so it might not be the first priority on everyones list!

Yep, I was thinking of this too. 

I'm currently following closely InFamous 2 but haven't even played the first game. It looks great but I'm not totally convinced about buying it till price drop (and vidyagaemz here in Mexico are fucking expensive). So now this is the very opportunity for a lot of people like me to play and decide. I'm really eager to try Infamous YES SIR.

I sold my college books so I got enough money to buy inFamous 2 at launch. I bought inFamous 1 for 40 last time.

vgchartz doesn't track any digital media and most other sales trackers don't even track bundled software so no.

Anyway as much as I love infamous I can't see this helping it much. Infamous 2 will sell well if it is well recieved it gets very good word of mouth not because a lot of new people try the original. While I loved infamous I can easily see why many people would think its average or mediocre. As others stated if I didn't push myself through the beggining I would have thought its an average game.

I'm worried since now people can get it free, they will download it and try it for a few minutes, think its meh and give up on it immedietly since it was free, and than not bother buying or trying the sequel.

Yeah this happens to me as well sometimes. Well, the reason I sold it so quick was; End 2009 I had a lot of money and bought a PS3 Xbox and Wii within a month. I got Killzone 2, Uncharted, MGS4, Motorstorm, Little Big Planet AND inFamous with my PS3. Not to speak of all the other games I got then for the other consoles as well. I just had too many games and from what I saw of inFamous I wouldn't ever play it. The other major factor was that I've never been able to enjoy a sandbox game for very long.

But I'll make up for it by getting inFamous 2 ok.

i hope it does help.  i want to say that the stat sony gave was ~70% of ps3s are hooked up to the internet meaning about 35M people may have played infamous 1 very soon here.  so my back of the hand calc is (knowing infamous legitimently sold ~2M) that 8.5% of those 35M would have to download, play, love, and go buy infamous 2 in order for it to reach 5M sales.
