Unreal Tournament III - Not the best UT game, but still alot of fun, especially with friends

inFamous - The best sandbox game available on PS3,  awesome story with some cool twists
F.E.A.R.2 - Such a let down after the first one,  seemed to go more Sci-Fi than horror
Batman AA - Finally a comic book game that not only doesnt suck,  but is f'n awesome
Brutal Legend - A must have for any Heavy Metal fan,  lots of fun with great music

Portal 2 - Fantastic game, fantastic humor,  and great puzzles that make you think,  would love to try out that co-op feature I hear it has

Holy crap, dude!!  That's one hell of a list!

I have not yet bought a HD game on day one, because I've owned the HD consoles multiple times when the backlog of games interests me enough to buy the system. If I get any PS3 games on day 1 it will either be L.A. Noire, or Uncharted 3.

For Wii I have bought several games day 1

-Super Mario Galaxy - Absolutely worth it, my favorite game released in the last decade.

-Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Don't regret it, but didn't enjoy it as much as the first.

-Super Smash Bros. Brawl - I got hyped in on this one. It's a fun game, but I didn't really need it first day.

-Wii Sports Resort - Loved this game, one of my most anticipated games this generation before release. The only thing I didn't like was having to watch the 10 minute Motionplus info video before I could start playing.

-Kirby's Epic Yarn - A lot of fun, don't regret it.

-Metroid Prime 3 - A fun game, but I sold it and bought the Trilogy, I might as well have waited for that.

I bought the 3DS and Pilotwings Resort on launch day. Don't regret either yet, I like Pilotwings but only bought it because it seemed like the best of the launch titles.

I'm probably forgetting a couple, and there were other titles that I bought in the first couple weeks of release that I wish I hadn't.

PS3:
Uncharted 2: A good Game, With probably the most realistic acting characters. I really should have rented it instead. I beat it in 3 days and sold it a few months later.

Final Fantasy XIII: I enjoyed this a lot. What I expected in gameplay/art direction from my favorite series.

Xbox 360
Gears of War: Really really fun, and good. Crap Story though that's what I expected.

PSP:
The Third Birthday: I had a gift certificate. And the game seem interesting. Was much better than I was expecting. My favorite music this gen, with great art direction and gameplay. bleh characters though.

The Legend Of Heroes: Trails in the sky. 1 of my 2 favorite games this gen. My favorite dialogue in a game. Great Battle System. Great Music. It's biggest negative is it looks like it was made in 1997.

PC:
Dead Space 2: The other of my favorite games this gen. Cool new gameplay Zero gravity fighting! Intense. Controls felt tighter than in DS1. Nice characters, art design and music. Not quite enough boss battles though.

Day 1 games for me coming up
1) Tomb Raider (I've liked every tomb raider crystal dynamics has done more than the previous.)
2) Final Fantasy XIII-2
3) Deus Ex 3
4) Mass Effect 3

  • Heavy Rain:  This is the kind of niche game that I love.  I was tooo hyped for this one (and CGI kept feeding my hype--he's the "Flavor Flav" of VGChartz!).  Amazing game.  Usually when I buy a game, I sneak it past my girlfriend (I have SHELVES of video games and I always convince her that "Oh, I bought this game months ago!" despite the fact that it's January and the game says 2011 when I turn it on.) but with Heavy Rain, we walked right into that store, side by side, bought the game, and she watched me play it.  Great game.

Mission accomplished!

Exactly why I avoid those "CGI-Quality's Hype Threads"!!  You had me waking up in the middle of the night thinking about Heavy Rain.  Maybe you do your job a little too good!

Also, great list of games you got there.  Any of them stand out as being particulary worth it or not worth buying?  Don't ask me why but reading the responses intrigue me.

Thanks to guys like you, guys like me can feel adequate!

DS

Super Mario Bros DS - Classic Mario as always :)

PS3

Batman AA - What a surprise this was. From the very start with joker's banter to the end. AAA experience.

Uncharted 2 - One of my favourite games this gen if not the favourite.

Modern Warfare 2 - Didn't know what i was getting into. My first call of duty game. Ended up putting 350 hours in it.

Portal 2 - Something to be experience. A different kind of game and something to remember as others fade.

I usually buy my games when they drop in price so this is it for launch day purchases. The backlog is 15-20 games and that usually prevents me from buying games Day 1.

Day 1 (this year)

Portal 2

Uncharted 3

Battlefield 3/Modern Warfare 3 - Most likely Battlefield. Activision's handing of the franchise pisses me off. Horrible port of Black Ops for the ps3 with connection problems for first 2-3 months didn't help.

While I can't list all of the games I got day 1 (mainly because I don't remember) I did do what you did for the MGS 4 bundle though slightly differently.

I remember waitinf for the bundle and signed up on Amazon for them to email me when pre-orders were going to be available.  I got an email from Amazon saying "this Friday at 9 Pacific you can pre-order the MGS4 bundle, it is in limited supply bla bla bla not many pre-orders."

I woke up that day at around 7:30 for work.  It was a surprisingly warm day (for San Francisco) and I was by the beach.  That combined with my desire for the MSG4 bundle (I didn't have a PS3 before that), I decided to take the day off of work and play hookey.

I set up my 1-click settings (1 less step for purchase) and at 1 minute to 9 I hit refresh every 5 seconds.  9 rolled around and I preordered it in a pretty anti-climatic fashion (1 click, no cheers :().  I then spent the rest of the day by the beach drinking chilled chocolate drinks, drinking beer and eating burgers under the warm sun and listening to a lot of Stevie Ray Vaughn.  One of my more favorite days ever.

On another note, my upcoming preorders are:

LA Noire,

Infamous 2

Dark Souls

Uncharted 3

Batman Arkham CIty

Most everything else I can wait until later/price drops to play.
