Forums - Sales - Capcom Expects Big Numbers from Resident Evil, Street Fighter and PS3

Capcom has shared a supplemental earnings report containing sales targets for the current fiscal year. Have a look in this easily parsed chart:

The company expects Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City to be its big title for the year, with 2.5 million units worldwide following release this Winter. Street Fighter x Tekken (date TBA), Dragon's Dogma (early 2012) and Dead Rising 2 Off the Record (Fall 2011) follow with 2.0 million, 1.5 million and 800,000 units.

For the previous year, Capcom's top selling game was without question Monster Hunter Freedom 3. Although released exclusively in Japan, the PSP title outsold second place Dead Rising 2 more than two to one.

Here are the full sales stats for the year:

  • Monster Hunter Freedom 3: 4.6 million
  • Dead Rising 2: 2.2 million
  • Marvel vs Capcom 3: 2.0 million
  • Super Street Fighter IV: 1.6 million
  • Lost Planet 2: 1.5 million

Aside from Monster Hunter, everything was released worldwide.

Capcom expects to do most of its business on the PlayStation 3 this year. It shared specific platform-by-platform targets. Last year's shipment totals are in parentheses.

  • PlayStation 3: 16 titles, 8 million units (11 / 6.2 million)
  • Xbox 360: 14 titles, 4.7 million (11 / 4.2 million)
  • DS/3DS: 9 titles, 2.4 million (11 / 1.7 million)
  • PSP: 11 titles, 2.2 million (11 / 6.2 million)
  • Wii: 2 titles, 200,000 (5 / 1.4 million)
  • PC and other: 3 titles, 500,000 (3 / 500,000)

Also in the supplementary earnings report, Capcom's standing in the worldwide games market:

In Japan, Capcom was the third biggest publisher behind Nintendo and Namco Bandai, besting Square Enix, Konami and Sega. In other markets, it failed to even make it into the top 10.

You'll find more of Capcom's fiscal stats in this English earnings report.

Plus, Capcom's guide to milking Street Fighter revealed!

There's the home version of Super SFIV in the center of everything there. It's surrounded by all the other stuff, like the iPhone and arcade versions of the game, the atrocious Street Fighter movie (I paid Japanese movie prices to see that, Capcom!!!) and the Chun-Li pachinko game, which apparently targets core players?

Monster Hunter a little undertracked?

Wii: 2 titles, 200,000 (5 / 1.4 million)

You gotta love Capcom >_<

I think those sales expectations for Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City, Street Fighter x Tekken, Dragon's Dogma and Dead Rising 2 Off the Record are rather reasonable.

So Capcom has 2 PS3 exclusives on the way? Perhaps it includes PSN games.

PS3 finally getting the kind of support people expected of it before it released.

monster hunter 4.6m - 1 platform - 1 region. WOW.

i dont understand why we can never get an english version of it without having to wait 2 years every single time.

and i wonder what those 2 extra games on ps3 are......maybe if they finally decided to have a look at their own data, it might be a monster hunter for ps3.

Those two titles will be very interesting.  Perhaps they're planning a Monster Hunter 4 portable-console strategy.  Make the NGP version then make a quick port to PS3, release PS3 version then have the NGP version ready to go for Japan whenever they deem ready.

PS3Domination, Make.believe lol :)

Holy shit Monster hunter is huge! And that's only Japan. Wow and people say the PSP is dead.

Show me your NGP Titles mr. Capcom!
