1. However if I was on the security team of Sony... come on now, use your head some, no need for me to spell it out for you.

2. My statements are not mutually exclusive, and therefore your entire point is absolutely void, yet again. You just have to look at the most recent Gawker Network deal to see what I mean by Anon gloating. Or the part wehre the completely fucked that one security firm. Or the one where they fucked the DDoSing anti-piracy company in India. The list keeps going and going.

1. Ah-ha, see I already knew you did that because I'm a CIA investigator combing your server, and I've found that the file was created on this computer, so I know it's an inside job, or a plant. I just wanted you to admit it. You do know the penalty for disturbing a crime-scene, correct? Oh, and I saw you lied to congress about it too. You're going to jail for a long time, son. Although it is respectable that you love your own company enough to sacrifice yourself for it. Oh well, hands on the hood please, sir.

2. How are you statements not mutually exclusive? You explain how a person can be a member of anon without anon even knowing, and then say, "then why did anon not know about it"?

EDIT: And I think I understand why you're passively hinting at things. You think it's too crazy to come out and say what you're implying. Right? :P

1. You are telling me that businesses don't try to get blame off themselves whenever they can no matter what?

2. Let me spell it out for you then. Random group of people gets together. They want to achieve 1 specific goal. Any time a situation like this happens, where there is one common specific goal, a "leader" will emerge, in this case it's probably Random Guy #732 who knows what he is talking about when it comes to the given situation. Next time it could be Random Guy #17. When they are done said leaders, or Random Guy #673 who knows how to make a statement without getting caught, goes out and gloats about how some company got screwed or not.

1. Not gunna keep arguing this. I understand that you are presenting a possibility, but you have to be aware that is quite the longshot.

2. Again, you're bringing a leader into this. You're once again creating a group context for a lone gunman.

evidence like them saying that they were planning huge psn attack days before psn was brought down is what he's talking i'd think

Cheers for proving my point, you don't know what the word evidence means.

Do you mean like evidence of Anon reps saying that they were discontinuing DDOS because it was more damaging for Sony customers than for Sony the company (and then actually stopping)? I'm pretty sure stealing user's credit card data comes under the category of more damaging to users than Sony.

anon hack for political reasons - to embarras HB Gary, to pay back Sony as a company for the Geohots thing, to punish Mastercard for their attempt to hurt wikileaks. They do not hack in order to steal credit card details. What you are suggesting is as proposterous as suggesting that because greenpeace commitsillegal activities to hidner whaling boats, we might as well assume they are guilty of every violent act of piracy (ie actual piracy, not video piracy etc) that we do not have a culprit for.

to be fair, it will be far more damaging to Sony if none of the cards are used, and Sony still has to pay for 100M people worth of insurance and CC fraud monitoring.

So, yes, it's very likely that it's anon. Especially when, so far, this is exactly what is happening.

1. You don't seem to realize that a simple text file is just a laughable amount of evidence, one which can be faked without a trace easily.

2. Except that you don't seem to understand that your "lone gunman" would be Random Guy #59, and in the end if a given end was the goal of the current set of people who associate with Anonymous at the time, they would be gloating about it. Anonymous is the label given to the group of people behind the current effort, and if a result is reachd, the group will gloat about it. The Anonymous that hacked into Gawker, is probably not the same one that hacked HBGary. If they gloat in the next few weeks, I wouldn't be surprised, however since they haven't gloated yet, it is just plain stupid to think it's them.

Also, not close to everyone chased by homeland security gets sent to Guantanamo. Sorry to break it to you but that's how it is. Now either provide me anything that gives me evidence that supports your claim, or you can jsut stop talking out of your ass.

Sounds like Sony is just trying to cover their ass.  “Sony has been the victim of a very carefully planned, very professional, highly sophisticated criminal cyber attack,”  Really, from using outdated software with known security holes?

It's inexcusable for a company of this size with this much of an online presence to not have a Chief Security Officer.

First they can't figure out how to generate a random number, and now they don't know about widely reported security issues to open source software.

I'm just going to slam my head into the wall a few dozen times. That should significantly replicate the rest of this conversation.

First of all, I love how one text file is used as evidence. I mean really. In fact, to show you what I mean, I just created a text file named Anonymous that had "We Are Legion" in it on my desktop.

Second, Anonymous isn't a group that has entrance exams interviews or anything. You can come and you can go as much as you want. I can be part of anonymous just by saying so, and if I feel liek it I can say I am not a part of them. You (and I mean you, the individual reading this) can do the exact same.

So there you go, two reasons just how silly this is.

Edit: I forgot to mention. Do you HONESTLY think Anonymous will go ahead an literally rape a humongous company's security that they hate, and then proceed to not gloat endlessly about it? If you say yes, then you don't know anything about Anonymous' previous actions.

They are not that stupid.

Anyone that would such a thing and gloat about it on the web would go straight to jail without getting their 20 000$...

However weak Sony security might have been, breaching into their network and stealing the information is actually a crime.

The biggest breach on record was at Heartland where 100 millions of credit card numbers were stolen.

The hacker responsible was sentenced last year to 20 years in jail......

Because they obviously failed to gloat when they hacked illegaly into other networks. Like say, the security firm, or Gawker media. Correct?

Edit: Remembered the sceurity company was HBGary.

No credit card or personnal information on that scale was stolen in those case.

And the FBI or homeland security weren't involved...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

They were still severely harmul to the company, especially HBGary, and are federal crimes, not state. Whoever the hacker is, he is still going to jail. Furthermore, even at the worst estimates, nowhere near close to 100million credit card numbers were retrieved from the PSN. I just mention that in case you want to argue on the severity of the crime and the amount of years someone will go to jail for, instead of whether they go to jail or not.

Ah, avoiding arguments when backed to a wall. Masterful argumentative technique you have there.

Hey guys, first post here, just popping in to say it's not the obvious, simple answer.

Sony planted evidence because they found out that the mushroom kingdom was responsible, and so they wanted to cover for them because mushroom-kingdom=gaming. Also, the CIA has no idea what's going on.

It's an exceptionally complicated subject for anyone with a college degree or less, but for me with my anonymity and 5 doctorates it's fairly simple and very commonplace.

Heck, last weekend, someone stole all the cabbages from my grocer. The grocer came over and put a note saying, "the cat burglar" because it was actually his mom and he didn't want her to get in trouble. When the cops came by they looked at the note, and were like, "this totally isn't the cat burglar's penmanship", and these fingerprints actually belong to the grocer clerk, and it can't be him who wrote it. Oh well, another unsolved mystery.
