Forums - Nintendo - Rumor: Cafe has 8 GB internal storage, maybe no 1080p

archer9234 said: I call bull. But if it is true, Nintendo has failed again. I bought a 1080p tv for 400$. And in 2 years no one is gonna want to see nothing but 1080p. Hell i bet you in two years they will start with 2160p tvs. 2160p tvs dont make sense, you would have to have a really huge tv to see the difference. projectors could work. the next generation of tvs are affordable OLEDs and that will take years before they are affordable and replace current tv sizes.

and on topic 8gb doesnt make sense at all. not 1080p could be realistic to keep the price as low as possible and most nintendo games(mario) wont be needing more, but would probably end in a 3rd party support like wii has now.

8 Gb is too small, i had to upgrade to 500 Gb just to manage.  not that everyone need 500 Gb but 8 is really too small for most people.  remember, if the wii 2 gets third party support that mean required game installs as that is pretty common now-a-days.

> 50% in this generation make do with 4GB or less... Surely that means most people are fine with 8GB?

Tease.

My Xbox360 with 4gb feels a bit insulted by you guys... :(

I think 8GB is a little small, but 16GB should be more than enough for the mayority of the population. Nintendo can add the posibility of buying an additional HDD like Microsoft does and problem solved, only that it will not come with the machine as a default.

With 16GB, Nintendo can raise the size of their Wiiware options to 256MB or even 512MB, and thats way higher that the actual 40MB limit.

4K is the next standard but that is a long ways away.   Bandwidth, media formats, cables, software and so much more would have to be designed and built to accommodate the new resolution and it had taken years and billions of dollars just to enable the 1080p and even that's not adopted completely by the masses yet.

Like I said before, if the GPU is based on the AMD R700 GPU, then 1080p is a given.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

i dont really care about the HD, but the 8gig storgae, is bullcrap. YOu cant do crap with that. unless you plan on not really using any online at all and even then some games require 5gig install

Here's to hoping they mean 8GB or RAM and 1080 GB of HDD space :D

Dunno why, but I feel dissapointed with these "leaked" specs...

8gb storage doesn't sound enough to me, I hope this rumour doesn't turn out to be true. It would be a pain to install games, DLC, to change cards, etc.

Less than 1080p is not ideal either, but I guess it's not too different from current HD games. I mean, if Wii could stay this long in the market without supporting HD, Café can pull this off.

A 25gb disc sounds good enough if Café is just as powerful as current HD consoles.

Anyway, their just rumours and we'll have to wait for the real deal.

bolded, It's a non-issue. 720p or 1080i is more than sufficient in any scenario. Only the elite core really care and they are by far not the majority of anything but opinions.

However, I don't think its a matter of capability, but more of do we need to add in the costs for such a minor change in detail?

Yeah, and those elite core should be playing PC anyway ya know?

@ OP A solid-state drive would be very costly on Nintendo's part so that is out of the question.  8 GB is probably enough it's just unfortunate that devs don't compress their downloadable titles.

The new console will have an SD-Slot, like the Wii. So you can upgrade it with a 32 GB SD card.

1080p? The graphic chip will be capable of it.

Maybe they are using a fast drive that doesn't installs at all. PS3 games are only installed because the drive is horribly slow. If you use 8Gb only for saves and DLC, it should be enough.
