If gamers don't deem your game worth $60 and decide to buy it used or rent it instead, that is your fault for not creating something that gamer's highly value (or in many cases, your publisher's fault for not adequately marketing your game). If you couldn't buy used or rent, there is going to be a natural progression towards lower prices and gamers buying games on sales anyway. That is exactly what we are seeing with Steam and other digital distribution platforms right now on the PC. Didn't Shio once mention that he bought 40 PC games for $200? Is that what you'd prefer for console games Remedy? Probably not. lol. People may think "it's better to get some money from the bargain bin than to get nothing at all (used games or rentals)." But the truth is the gamers who sell used games usually use that money to buy more new games. And in order to rent games to renters like me, you have to actually buy the games. And how do you think rental companies like Gamefly come up with the funds to buy the discs to rent out? They get funded through subscriptions of course! (Or in the case of limited time rentals like Blockbuster, the rental fee that you pay to rent the game). |
Gamestop did screw over the balance between used and new games though, when people buy a used game for 55 bucks and sell them for 15 when they could get 40 on ebay there is a problem
