I think MS should just wait and see what exactly is going on with Project Cafe, in order to see how they can combat it with their next console.

The console development process is very long, and begins the instant you get the previous console out the door. MS will have about a year from the release of the Wii2 to the release of the 720. That is not enough time for much in the way of changing their console.

Yeah your right but they could make some changes here and there, nothing too drastic of course. I was thinking more along the lines of how Sony changed their batarang controler as soon as they saw the fan reaction to it.

That was possible because the boomarang was not really different to any other Sony controller in any significant way. It does not change the requirments of the rest of the console, nor does it require changing the launch games in any way.

Whereas look at what happens when a company adds in a feature like the sixaxis purely because they are trying to copy a competitor (pretty much nothing, it raises the cost of controllers noticeably, and gets used in cool ways like twice in the PS3's entire catalogue)

Hey, remember the PS3 boomerang controller? And how it magically got dropped for a motion controller after Ninty revealed their Wiimote?

Not saying it was a direct response..but hey...

see a pattern tthough, it nearly all sony exclusive games that actually is it in a good way. shame

@ osama and wfz - Indeed, sixaxis was of course a direct response to the Wiimote, but by the time the Wii was revealed, it was much too late to move to a control system like move - and changes related to the console's graphics capabilities require even more time to consider. That's why all the good sixaxis games are just conventional games with sixaxis having a cool use or two.

Depending on what MS shows for Kinect at E3 (derivative Wii-style games or uniquely creative and fun experiences), I think it's impossible to say how or when they'll respond to Project Café.  If it impresses, I still say holiday 2014, especially if PC isn't graphically a huge leap over the 360 as rumored.  If not, they're plans may be accelerated for a 2013 release.  We'll see.

Microsoft investors cannot afford to hear the words "new console" after the kinect launch.

I can seeing it being a while say 2013 or so - I think they will wait till there is a leap in TV quality - say 4K or a new 3D that is yet to be standarized, and higher frame rates.  I hope the next MS Console is seriously uber powerful, like the jump from Halo: CE to the graphics in Halo: Reach.  I can see the next consoles including multiple monitor support and/or Quad HD resolution, a solid state hard drive, a massive set of graphic co processors and 3D.

I don't think their will be much lead time, as it kills your current sales if you know the 'new thing' is coming soon.  Like the suprise with the launch of the 360S, which was 'here it is today.'  I think we will hear rumors/expect it, but I can see it being rather quick from launch to sales.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Microsoft's not ready to talk but they have been working on their next system for awhile now and actually officially confirmed like two years ago that they were working on software for a next gen system. I think the sales are just delaying Microsoft's announcement, they will milk the 360 as long as possible.

Though I think if Nintendo's next console in fall 2012 kills the 360's sales a Microsoft console will follow pretty quickly. Judging from how long they've been developing for it I bet we will see some sweet software at launch too!
