Forums - Sony - Has Sony notified you about your compromised info yet?

So I was reading about how Sony only learned about the severity of this whole situation on Monday and that they only then started contacting the customers.  That's when I realized something--

Sony hasn't actually contacted me and told me about the issues yet.  Has anyone actually received an email from Sony?

If it wasn't for me reading third party gaming news blogs and forums I wouldn't know about this.  It's now Wednesday, more than two days after they learned of the situation and Sony hasn't actually told me about it.  I have no email from them and no message when I try to sign into the PSN.

Does this worry anyone else?  It's amazing how badly they're handling this situation.

I have friends that only know their info has been comprised because I have told them, not Sony.  It isn't my job to tell my friends that someone may have all that information, it's Sony.

And what about those people that don't have friends that simply know about the severity of the outage?  If I didn't know, I would assume it's still under maintenance like they previously told us and go on like there's nothing wrong.  So yeah, since Sony can't be bothered to actually contact their customers that their information has been compromised, make sure your friends know and point them to some source.  Do Sony's job for them because it doesn't look like they're going to do it any time soon.

They are handling this very horribly.

I'm personally offended and upset about this. Instead of an under maintenance message they should have placed: change all your passwords and change all your credit cards NOW message.

To keep their consumers in the dark like this for so long  ... is really wrong.

I completely agree.  Just checked the email account I used to sign up for PSN and there is nothing from Sony.  One of my friends keeps texting me asking when PSN is going to be back online.  I'm going to have to tell him tomorrow about whats up since he has no clue.

Yeah, I'm in complete shock I haven't actually received an email yet, I mean, I just don't know what to say.  Even assuming they did only find out Monday how severe the situation was, that's two full days.  It's been more than 12 hours since they first released a statement on Tuesday and said they were working on an email to send to customers.  Jesus guys, how long does it take to write an email?  What you had on the site was plenty, just notify your customers that their information was compromised.

I'm posting this hoping that maybe I just missed the email or accidentally deleted it because it's just unthinkable that they still haven't notified their customers that their information was stolen.

I've yet to recieve anything as well but until my account starts losing money, I'm not worried just yet.

You are suppose to avoid being notified, thats why SONY has hit the media because of fake emails, phone calls and letters that could arise impersonating SONY.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

What i dont understand is the passwords - were they stored as plain text?

I'm a software engineer at work and work on the back end / Data storage etc and right now i'm having to rewrite all of our systems to become PCI compliant where it states if Credit Card data is storedthen all passwords  must be encrypted and that encryption must be of an approved standrds by the PCI test team.

We're actually opting for not storing credit card information anymore and are using a PCI approved company to store them for us so how have our passwords been comprimised?

I wouldn't be surprised if they have an email server with a limit of 5000 mails per hour.. then 70 million would take a while.. xD

just ring your banks and ask for new cards it shouldnt cost you anything, ive had my CC details stolen 3 times in the last 5 years, and altho the first time it was quite scary and worrying, the speed and efficency that my bank dealt with it each time im just not that bothered anymore, they refunded all fraudulent claims immediatley and sent me out new cards within 3 days. These were not small claims either the last time they charged over £1000 to the apple store. And as i say its never cost me a penny.

You may think i must be incredibly lax with my credit card but i never let it leave my site in restaraunts or stores and i never use it in cash machines, which makes me believe the details must of been stolen each time from internet retailers and i only really shop at big brand electronic and game stores online. Which has lead me to believe that lots of online stores are probably compromised and the providers dont even know it, or at least never inform me!
