A question to those saying that Sony's security is bad or that they were negligent:

Do you know how Sony's security works? How was the hack carried out? Could you have hacked PSN? I mean, Sony just doesn't care about our sensitive information and their security is so weak, right?

How many companies have had their entire customer data-base exposed that effected >1M people?

I think you'll probably find that Sony is the first...

Lets see

Heartland 2009, 100 million credit card information stolen..

http://www.securitymanagement.com/news/heartland-may-be-biggest-data-breach-ever-005087

TJX 2007 45.6 million credit card information stolen ( including SSN in some cases..)

http://www.securityfocus.com/news/11455

Card System solutions 2005, 40 million cards

http://www.securityfocus.com/news/11219

Need I say more ???

See with some luck your credit card information was already stolen 3 times and 6 years later you still had no clue about it ;)

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Your suggesting that the entirity of MSNBC is biased against Sony, an pro 360.

How isn't that a conspiracy... you know, espeically based on your above definition... you've apparently already forgotten you posted in this thread.  Each post you make seems like you've forgotten the past posts you've made in this thread, twisting and wrapping your arguement in a desperate spin attempt to not realize that at this point your

Also, they've somehow completely hidden this fact from the public without any reporters, ediotrs or copywriters sayign anything or any memos leaking.

A conspriacy that would have to involve it's partners which involve the NYT, the New York Post and other media partners.

Oh, and also NBC.  Apparently NBC is perfectly fine letting microsoft push propganda with their 50% of the stakes, nevermind that it might hurt the reputation of MSNBC (which Microsoft owns 0% of) or any other news they report.

(Oh, and every other news company that's reporting this story apparently.  Maybe M$ is just monehatting them all!)

It's not a secret that how it isn't a conspiracy lol, of course a MS owned organisation is pro 360, and no the others are just blowing it out of preportion for raitings

The spin is amazingly bad here. Sony says all personal information is compromised, but people in this thread seem to disagree. That is amazingly bad.

More like people don't understand what compromised means, compromised doesn't mean some hacker now has all the personal info that was on psn, it means he had the ability to acess it, thats all, compromised doesn't eqaul personal data of 77 million people stolen

Actually I know exactly what it means in this sense. You obviously don't. Comprimised in this sense means it was being copied over. The person may have only gotten some or all of it, but he/she has the private data now. I quote the playstation blog now: "we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained." It is silly to try and define terms you have no experience with.

Your right... it's not secret.  It's non existant.  They don't do that.  It's silly to suggest they do.

Seriously? You don't even know where that quote comes from? Have you read anything at all on this issue? It is from the first PS blog that announced the problem. This is the post that started off all the furor. This is the post that explained what happened in definitive terms. This entire time you have been arguing over the nature of the breach without even reading the original source? Why have you been asserting so much information without ever having checked with Sony as to the official story? How can you contradict what people are saying without listening to the company we are talking about?

"we believe that" Could be an assumption or some legal cover your ass and still doesn't change the fact nothing has happened to anyone and of course I know where it came from, just too lazy to go there myself and alot of people take stuff out of context

Yes a company that owns a media outlet would never in any way use it to help along their agenda... what the hell is wrong with you?

Once again

A) They own exactly 50% of the company... and NBC handles day to day stuff more.

B) If they did, there would be proof of it.  See Fox News.

Though yeah... you seem to be the kind of person in mind when the saying

"It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into."

was coined.

So you asked for a source knowing the source? Then your response is to use a line I actually quoted? Oh yeah, I buy that. Makes perfect sense really. Nothing strange at all there.

I don't think they would have used that language to cover their asses legally since there is no reason to state it legally. If they were just covering their bases it would sound something like :"While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility." The data was being mined.

Also, things are happening right now. Do you expect the guy to sift through all the data and email people indivdually? The data will be sold to whomever is willing to pay the cash for it. This means you won't get one scam, but as many scam companies as feel like ponying up the dough hitting all those affected. This kind of data is worth top dollar too. Hell regular companies and advertisers will pay top dollar depending on just how much data was dumped. Purchase and playing history are amazingly valuable bits of info when tacked onto a gender and location.

Seriously, stop and inform yourself then come back with a semi-coherent defense. Currently yours makes no sense, and utilizes no concrete information. It is out there both for and against. Read it, form a cogent argument, then post it here. Till then you are not really going to be able to make a valid point.
