Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Project Cafe/3DS and the abandoning of the consumer

You can't just have nothing but mass market games. Should Nintendo order Intelligent Systems to stop making Fire Emblem because it's a niche title? That all said, ignoring the mass market is a mistake as well. No 2D Mario on the N64 and Gamecube was a mistake. And it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring back 2D old-school Metroid and 2D old-school Zelda. These games will sell to the hardcore as well.

The problem with the Wii is that Nintendo pretty much pulled the plug on it and the third-party developers pretty much gave up on it (the announced E3 lineup is so light) when sales figures show that Wii still tops the software charts. Just Dance 2 is over half a year old and it's the best selling non-bundled Wii game out there. The Wii is pretty much relying on old software right now. You don't just purposely kill off a successful console like that. Leaving money on the table.

^ And that just shows that if Nintendo had actually fulfilled the Promise of the Wii instead of wasting their time on Galaxy, they could have easily passed the PS2, like I said the fault is Nintendo's not their competitors

T_T

What were they suppose to do to 'fulfill the promise'?

And isn't Wii still selling ahead of the PS2 at this time in its lifetime?

Release games that take the concepts of Wii sports, resort and fit and expand them to full fledged games, release old school style games, etc.  Games that the market demanded.

Sure, but it could have done so much more, and ended up passing the PS2 by a large margin, and had no reason to release a new console any time soon.

First of all, PS2 sold that amount in 10 years or so. Wii has been out for 5/6 years.

Bridging the gap is a fool's errand

Just as 2D Mario fans will not necessarily be 3D mario fans, you cannot get old school expanded gamers to become hardcore gamers

yes the Wii hs been out less time than the PS2, but the way Nintendo has been treating  it the past few years, it won't be out as long as the PS2

So what you're saying is that 3D mario games should no longer be produced in favor of 2D mario games because 2D mario games sell better making all the 3D mario game sales by defalt worthless

Where'd you get that 'hardcore' crap from? No one is talking about making anyone 'hardcore'.

And no one is talking about old-school gamers either.

It talks about new gamers. People who came into gaming with the Wii.

it's almost impossible for Nintendo to fail from now on.... they are too popular

i mean, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Super Smash Bros, Mario 2D and 3D, Nintendogs , Pokemon and so on have become established like GTA for example

only a series of terrible 1st party games could take off the throne, i mean people will buy the new consoles just because of the exclusive Nintendo franchises

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Basically yeah, 3D Mario is a waste of time and resources that could be beter spent on other games

It talked about converting the new gamers into loyalists, hence Hardcore, and my point is that that is a foolish attempt, since the new gamers are only gaming ecause of thei expanded and old school games, so unless you cater to them with more of those games, they will notstick around, they will not be bridged into loaylist gamers by 3D Mario and the like
